@mjstewart1224 Granted, he didn’t know me too well then, so I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. But he always says if he needs heart surgery, he’ll come to me, so I guess (?) he has hope in me.
Tell me about it. A lot of people kept discouraging me (and my sister, who went through her application process last ear), since my school hadn’t sent anyone to a big school in decades. When my sis got accepted to Brown, although a lot of people congratulated her, there were some who acted coldly. They weren’t pleased about her proving them wrong…wtf
My school isn’t too big on sending students to bigger, prestigious universities. Our val. got into some great schools, but she’s the outlier. I can’t really compare myself to my peers because most of them are privileged, white kids. Me, on the other hand…oh boy
There are some random kids who apply to top universities at my school, but hardly anyone ever gets in. Only thing I’ve heard so far is a deferral from Harvard.
No one has ever gone to Brown, and if I do I’d be the first. Maybe that’ll help my application haha.
@whitespace We’re on the same boat. I’ve been accepted to all of my safeties, and from this point on, I’m expecting rejections.
Same with me @schroscat
@schroscat Don’t say that – you gotta prove your counselor wrong
Sameee @schroscat @graceann
Northeastern was my match school that I felt pretty confident about getting into. They have a solid NMF scholarship and good financial aid. Good political science program - Michael Dukakis teaches there! - and solid co-op programs, plus it’s in a big city and I can afford it.
So I’m trying to stay excited about that (applied EA so I found out in December) and not expect anything from other colleges.
My problem is that my grades tanked my second semester of junior year, so I’m hoping that colleges waited to see my mid-year report (4.0) before making assumptions. But I fully understand that is a very slim possibility.
@Grapess I know I have to! But the likelihood (especially with my apparently abysmal SAT score) of that happening is slim to none. If anything, I have the whole “she’s in every club”, “she’s cultured” and “she has a good(?) life story” on my side. I’m horrible at judging my own application.
@whitespace I heard from NU tomorrow. I’m hoping for an acceptance, but I can’t afford it, so it’ll be bittersweet.
You never know - they were more generous with the aid than I was expecting. EFC is ~$4500 while Profile is all over the place, and it will only cost me $17k/yr
@schroscat If you don’t mind me asking, what is your SAT score? I’m sure it’s not abysmal at all. CC tends to have a skewed perspective on these things.
@whitespace My mom’s income is ~25k, so I can’t ask for her to support my university costs. How did they factor in grants? I was accepted to a private university here, and my EFC was 23k
Also, 2130. (690 CR, 740 M, 700 W)
NEU was generous to me, and I didn’t expect it at all. Is your decision coming out tomorrow? @schroscat
@Grapess According to CC, yes! I don’t know what time, though. I have Mock Trial practice tomorrow, and I’d rather not learn in school. Ah, well.
@schroscat omg!! 8-} You’re making me nervous now. I’m getting too attached to people I’ve never met.
@schroscat Uhh… give me a sec to go check my exact package.
Dean’s Scholarship - 22k
NEU Grant - 21k
Pell Grant - 2k
Federal SEOG Grant - 3k
Loans - 5500
Work Study - 2200
Family Contribution - 11k
@Grapess This website forms really great friendships!!! Do you remember how they released decisions?
@whitespace Huh, that’s actually not bad. I know I get almost 4k in Pell Grants, so I could perhaps make it work. I LOVE NEU; I was just convinced I could never go because it’s so expensive.
