**Brown Class of 2020 RD applicant thread**

Brown’s website says 2 to 3 weeks before one gets an email to a tracking portal; so that would probably be next week

I just emailed them, they said I’ll be getting one within two weeks of today. They must be clogged up

Thoughts on emailing departments/professors? Of course with the ulterior motive of displaying interest/desperately showing up on their radar, but also to gather some prep materials for the major, especially if I’m not admitted and have to create it on my own at another school.

Actually, if I’m not admitted and email them then, would I be likely to receive advice on this?

@ShaunakK98 Bangalore! What about you?

Honestly, everyone flipping out about not getting your portal links - relaaaaax. I’m sure they have loads of applications to process, and they’re not gonna just forget yours! Don’t worry about it.

Just got mine…submitted around 31st!

just got mine too!! i also submitted the 31st!

I just finished my Brown interview - is it bad that it only lasted 30 minutes?

@graceann How do you request an interview??

@Malcomx99 You don’t - if you’re getting an interview, an alumnus will contact you.

@smartypants57 ok thanks

@DefineHuman Don’t email profs. They have nothing to do with admissions. And Brown doesn’t care about anyone’s “interest”. They assume that, pending better offers, you’re immensely interested or you wouldn’t have applied. Plus, they have a deep WL and will go to the next person w/o blinking an eye should you turn them down.

@T26E4 Thanks for the help. Do you think emailing them when I’m rejected would net any help, though? It’s just that I can’t seem to find any other English-language semiotics programs for undergrads. I’d like to have an idea of what students in these programs do over the course of 4 years.

@DefineHuman they’re not going to change the decision no matter what if you’re rejected, but emailing admissions could/probably would help if you’re waitlisted.

@smartypants57 Sorry, should have specified: I meant that I may need help crafting my own semiotics program at another school (or independently, who knows at this point). I’m wondering if they’ll have the time to nudge me into a general direction.

I haven’t gotten the portal yet even though it’s been almost three weeks, and even though I know I shouldn’t be worried because they’re backed up and whatnot, I am worried that when I does come, it will be too late to schedule an interview…

Does anyone know if a Slideroom submission should appear under the Application Summary? Is there any way to confirm they’ve received my portfolio?

@wonderlanddd you don’t schedule the interview anyways - an alum will contact you for an interview. So don’t worry - you still have just as good a chance of getting an interview as you would if you had already received the portal.

@smartypants57 I’m aware that they contact you, and I know there are alumni interviewers in my area since I have friends who applied ED and earlier for RD who got an interview. It’s just making me worried because I really want an interview, but I know they only run through February :confused: (and that just because my friends got one doesn’t mean I will) But I also know I’m just worrying over nothing haha

@wonderlanddd honestly don’t worry about getting an interview!! :slight_smile: I know people who have gotten in without an interview and unless you severely mess them up, they barely hold any weight. I remember reading somewhere on CC that a girl’s interviewer told her that the girl was a perfect candidate and that he would do anything to get her into the school, and the girl was still rejected…
