@allthingstesla Thanks for the update. I provided Brown with my Columbia offer yesterday. Crossing my fingers that they will match it as Columbia FA is 3x what Brown initially offered me.
@allthingstesla Got my response today. They did not exactly match Columbia FA (~3.4x more than initially offered by Brown) but came much closer to it (1.28x). So essentially we got an increase of 2.61x do from initial offer. Much appreciated.
@smartypants57 thanks i ended up doing that
Is it appropriate for the student to call financial aid office and talk to them about need based financial aid or makes more sense for a parent to talk to them about the financial condition and requirements?
@allthingstesla and @IfnousWHO Did you receive your updated financial aid offer through email or did it just appear on the portal? I sent in an appeal letter/offer from another institution earlier in the week and I’m not sure how we will find out if they have reviewed it and made and new offers. Thank you!
@SE1619 I received an email telling me that my financial aid award was updated on my portal and the email also gave a description of how my student loans were removed.
@allthingstesla Thank you! I will wait for an email then instead of checking the portal 10x a day.
@mycollegeplan1 unless you understand everything about your parents’ finances and tax forms, have your parents call. Normally I think students should interact with their college, but financial aid is different.
@SE1619 I also received an email telling me that my financial aid award was updated on my portal. It took about 3 business day to get a response. They are very good at geeting back to you quick. I love Brown
@fireandrain thank you.
Today is last day to register for ADOCH (4/19 thru 4/21). I registered and purchased airline tickets.
Can’t wait to see everyone at ADOCH!
A question: is it worth it to attempt to appeal financial aid based on another school (JHU)'s offer, when the difference is $2500 in work study not offered by brown but the total grant aid already offered is extremely substantial?
Do admissions officers normally respond to waitlist emails? I sent mine out a while ago and there’s been no reply, but I can’t tell if that’s just par for the course or something.
(I REALLY hope it doesn’t mean that I just have no chance.)
For those of you that attended ADOCH like me I am curious hear about your views (before vs after visit) relative to the school and or providence in general. Decision reinforced or changed… concerns or deal breakers? Thx.
@mercurians I don’t know that they always return these emails. Keep in mind that along with dealing with the waitlist, the Admissions Office is currently processing transfer and special applicants, so they still have a massive amount to get done. The very fact that you are on the waitlist means that you still do have a chance.
Good luck!
@IfnousWHO Definitely reinforced! I loved Brown way more than I liked the other school I visited, and ADOCH was enough to make me commit.
For my son, ADOCH made a huge impact on his decision to attend Brown. He really enjoyed it, particularly the students not necessarily part of the “official” activities who went out of their way to show how supportive and collaborative the community is. In fact, I would say the informal activities/encounters made a far bigger impact than the official ones.
Thanks @hufflepuffle and @baltimoreguy
@mercurians same here lol…the AO never returned my email either when I sent my love letter/update…Hope us luck!!
Wondering if anyone has heard from Brown for WLs
