Brown Class of 2022 Applicants Discussion

I’m struggling to find the motivation to apply to other schools when there’s a slim chance I’ll actually get into Brown. Also, a friend of mine called the admissions office and they told her December 12/14 at 6 PM EST.

@hibye25 Ok… That conflicts with most of the info we’ve gleaned from admissions so far. I really hope it’s true, or that we’ll at least hear by the 15th, but I’m not crossing my fingers.

@hibye25 Can I ask when she called them?

If it’s true, that’s great. The 15th would be great. I’d prefer we hear earlier than the 21st because I’m not so excited about the prospect of having only about a week to finish RD applications haha.

@jrdsnw what do we know from admissions? I’ve been following different websites and the only thing that’s “official” is “Mid-December” from the Brown website.

@AverageTeen2000 she called yesterday. Not sure what time but I think probably earlier in the afternoon. I agree about hearing soon, I really hope they stick to the “Mid-December” that’s been up on the website for a while. I’d be fine waiting an extra two days or so after the 15th but I’m already so anxious!!

My D may apply to another school ED2 if she doesn’t get into Brown. But she would need to have the guidance counselor sign the agreement so hopefully Brown decisions will be out before her school closes for break.

I have never seen them release decisions beyond 12/17 or so, in the 9 years since I applied. I would be extremely surprised if they didn’t release on the 15th or before, given that the 15th is a Friday. Guys, chill out.

“Mid-December” is a timely decision IMO for an application sent in 11/1. While I appreciate that students (and their parents) want the news ASAP, 12/12 vs. 12/15 (as an example) will not be a big difference in the grand scheme of things. And having been around a while, once a date is announced, the next question everyone will ask is “Yeah, but what time?” 8-}

I’m sure Brown has a date that they are working toward, but if they announce one and are forced to change it, people will also be upset. It’s not like an ED notification dater is a contract, though some seem to think so.

Regardless, one would hope that no student is putting all his/her eggs in one basket and is waiting for a decision from Brown before starting on other applications. Whether one sends them or not, at least some should be ready to go in the event of a less-than-positive response.

No one is putting all their eggs in one basket. We are all sitting here with essays for 11 back up schools just waiting for Brown to tell us when they THINK they’ll release ED decisions. No one wants to pay $500+ for app fees and no one wants to cut it close for teacher Recs, transcripts, or test scores. Again, as I said, it is ridiculous and a bit arrogant. Just tell the students a date and be done with it. Or, if there is a problem, be transparent about it. But don’t give a release date on instagram and then remove it and act like it didn’t happen. It’s unprofessional to do that. Respect the students that made the effort.

The checklist is gone!!!

They did it again @timchen

I get a 404 page not found http://brown.edu/academics/medical/plme/prospective-students/prospective-students.

Is Admissions office not clear on what they want??? Help!!

This is very stressful. I am worried. I am going to apply to my regular decision schools today.

I can still see the PLME page…but the checklist is now gone for me!

I hope they announce the date tomorrow! I have to apply for my RD schools soon and I have too many essays to write :frowning:

Alright, guys. The checklist is gone. Decisions are going to come out this week, most likely.

Let’s just wait and see what happens.

Oh my gosh… so i found a Facebook group for Brown University Class of 2022 Admitted Students. There are no students in it yet, but the description of the group has some interesting info!

It says: “On December 14, 2017 Brown University offered admission to 775 Early Decision applicants to the Class of 2022”

So, this means probably the 14th! Also, since it says 775 applicants were admitted, I guess all decisions are already final? 775 is significantly more than previous years!

i think you have to be logged into Facebook to find it. so if you just search brown university class of 2022 admitted students, it comes up

@gsocuw And I thought I was a master of online sleuthing. You’re GOOD. Kudos and thanks. You’re right - 775 is decidedly larger than 695 students admitted ED last year.
@Lutus221 Just do a Facebook search. Not hard to find. (Not sure you can link to FB here…)

but of course we can’t take anything that is not officially published 100% seriously because there may be delays and mix ups that communications people are not aware of

All I see is welcome class or 2022!! This group is here to serve as a resource for prospective…

@Lutus221 Click “See all” or “see more” - it’s there.
