Friends, not sure if missed any response to the above query. Any update on whether Brown started responding to applications by way of admissions (Mine is international)?
@TheOldTimer: Yes, I personally know people who applied to PLME and only got into Brown, no PLME. For what itâs worth, the ones I know attended Brown, loved it, and got into great medical schools after.
@bruno14 : Thank you very much. I guess no pre-med students would boast that they were rejected by PLME so it is impossible to learn this information from school.
IF I manage to get accepted to Brown, I really doubt Iâll get into PLME, ill let you know
@subram Admissions decisions come out on March 28.
@sciencenerd123 maybe he meant likely letters?
Iâm considered a legacy and still havenât received contact for an interview⊠oops
There are 7 Columbia LLs reported from other threads. Only 3 IDs have limited stats posted before. Based on those, it seems these LLs are for people either having hooks (URM, 1st Gen, LGBT), and/or through QuestiBridge. The stats posts are good but not super.
i know a non QB Asian girl that got a likely for Columbia Engineering so its not only for ppl with hooks
@jeffrandell If you are talking about the girl (id starts with xxl) who has a youtube clip on how to get 34 ACT, she is 1st gen, low income. if not, please share her stats.
⊠and girls in Engineering is a hook
Lol, not anymore- MIT is full of them
MIT, Caltech, Harvey Mudd, Georgia Tech, etc. are all dramatically increasing their girls in Engineering numbers, and they achieve that by offering admission and scholarships to more girls. Thatâs why Iâm asking if Brown is doing anything to attract more boys, since they already have more girls than boys in the school.
i doubt her gender is why she got in: 1540 SAT and tons of national awards in computer science
@bogeybear i strongly doubt it lol
Females are underrepresented in STEM so it could be a factor for diversity purposes but she is very well qualified as most students are who apply to these great universities.
Folks, letâs not talk about if someone is qualified or not. Hooked and unhooked candidates are judged differently in RD. I guess this is well known by now. This girl applied to Gates Scholarship. The Gates Scholarship is a highly selective, full scholarship for exceptional, Pell-eligible, minority, high school seniors. This proves she has a hook. I think she is well qualified by the way.
What I am trying to say is hooked and unhooked candidates are using different slots in RD. If you look at The Class of 2021: A Snapshot (https://news.brown.edu/articles/2017/09/firstyear#Class%20Profile), 43 percent of the class received need-based scholarship or grant aid, of those 26 percent have no expected parental contribution from income. So 11.18 percent of students received full ride scholarships. @bogeyorpar : indeed 57% of students are paying full tuition. The middle class percentage is at most 32% at Brown. (100 - 11.18 - 57).
@TheOldTimer do you think they have low middle class rates bc of a low rate of middle class kids applying, or a low rate of middle class kids enrolling?
All the Ivies have similar polar nature of student SES profile. Brownâs financial aids budget (https://www.brown.edu/content/facts-about-financial-aid) is comparable but slightly lower than Yaleâs. 43% of Brown class of 2021 receive financial aids compared with 41% of class of 2020 (https://www.brown.edu/about/administration/financial-aid/) Excluding those 16% international students who are âneed-awareâ (https://www.brown.edu/about/administration/financial-aid/first-year-applicants), if we assume most of internationals are full-paid, only 41% are domestic full-paid. From this perspective, about half of the domestic students are on financial aids. And the trend is going up for the percentage of students on financial aids. It is a great time to be middle class to attend Brown these days compared with 10 years ago. Did you see my posts on another thread regarding foreign students driving Maserati Quattroporte in Midwest? (BBC Capital news) â " A recent report from the Brookings Institution found that nine of the 25 American universities with the highest Chinese populations belong to the Big Ten, a group of 14 universities, primarily located in the Midwest. " We are pretty balanced here at Brown. We found Brownâs financial aid package pretty competitive. Best luck to everyone.
