Brown Class of 2022 Applicants Discussion

Since Columbia started early…
Any Brown likely letters received lately (other than the one person MaybeHarvard2020 mentioned)?
@MaybeHarvard2022

@Volunteerism not yet, i believe the bulk of them will start rolling out the first 2 weeks of march.

@MaybeHarvard2022 Thx.
Since Brown sends them in waves and via regular mail we might start seeing them this week or next.

A ‘likely letter’ is a literal letter via snail mail or email or both?

@violetstar The “likely letter" will come in snail mail.

I’ve been thinking about the whole deferred situation and came up with the following:

Deferred ED- really only 1 scenario: you are a viable candidate but they want to see how you fit into the overall class profile- qualified candidate, but in with a pool of equally qualified candidates- nothing to really set you apart or you don’t fill a needed slot -sports, drama, marching band etc.

Deferred EA- 2 scenarios

  1. you are a viable candidate but they want to see how you fit into the overall class profile- qualified candidate, but in with a pool of equally qualified candidates- nothing to really set you apart or you don’t fill a needed slot -sports, drama, marching band etc.
  2. you are a excellent candidate but they are worried that you are using them as a back up and therefore need to see more commitment before they can take up a potential spot (likely you don’t bring anything to the table that they need to fill a slot- sports, drama, marching band etc. so they have to weight the risk of your non acceptance on the final class size

With the overall holistic approach for admissions, I would love some insight on how they statistically model the overall acceptance pool to insure that the number of acceptances by the school eventually leads to the target number of students attending- is this done with algorithms based on test scores, geographical location, somehow incorporate the ECs- undershoot and the difference can be made up from the waitlist, overshoot and there is a logistical nightmare for rooms

@hooverhoo : Congratulation! Time to relax …
@BrKmNk : I am sure it is real and @hooverhoo 's DD is among the most ideal candidates to receive one. If you were the winner of Siemens Competition, you are unlikely to get one from Brown. You are likely to get one from Yale. @hooverhoo 's DD wants to get into PLME so much after she got into HYPSM that AOs can personally feel the genuine demonstrated interest.

hahaha, @Volunteerism @TheOldTimer you huys are so cute, apparently we are all stressed-out, why not have some fun and relax a bit. I read these posts on my way to work but could not reply. Nonetheless, I stand by my speculation on LL: it is quite random. Anyway, we are going to see LLs come out next week, hopefully whoever receives it will kindly provide some stats, of course within properly protected privacy.

I strongly recommend you guys considering going to Whistler Blackcomb ski resort, BC, shown on my avatar icon to relax. The distanct mountain in the avatar is real. (photo was taken near Olympic events sites) Second only to Swiss resorts such as Zermatt, or Jungfraujoch imho. Now they should still have plenty of snow.

great cog train ride up to Jungfraujoch

Question: So I know that brown doesn’t go through common app when they send out decisions. You have to log in to Browns website to reveal the decision. Does brown give out those logins on the 28th or should we have them already?

You should have the log in details since a long time ago. They send those to you 2-3 days after you submit your application

@mjwolf1 I had an issue with that at one of my other schools where I never received login information. This was because they had accidentally sent it to the wrong email! I would check your junk mail first, but then I recommend calling the Office of Undergraduate Admissions to be sure.

Hi guys I have a quick question, so I go to a school in the US (I’m an international student who is finishing her high school years in the US) the public school I go to has about 2800 (530 seniors) student and we keep getting more students for some reason. My counselor knows that the midyear report is due mid-Feb but she did not send it yet!!! I emailed her recently but she said she cannot send it until Monday which is the 26th. I believe that the 26th is past mid feb so do you think this will affect my admission decision? and should I email the admission office and tell them about the issue?

See https://www.collegeconfidential.com/admit/your-college-applications-mid-year-report/

@intlstudent2022: Brown’s not going to penalize you for your school not sending things in in a timely manner. You’re fine.

Is anyone having trouble accessing the financial aid portal today?

Yeah, I couldn’t access mine today for some reason.

@ARIVERA1 @intlstI same i think we are in see you guys on campus

I cant access mine either. I don’t think it has any significance.
