I think we’re probably going to hear on either Monday the 18th or Tuesday the 19th. This is just a hunch of mine, but the Facebook page post on December 6th said “almost two weeks left.” Two weeks from December 6th is the 20th… so it should be before then, and I imagine they’d announce on a weekday?
This could be totally wrong, but I think this fits in with them announcing the release date “late next week,” i.e. the 14th or 15th.
My daughter brought it to my attention that on her portal it says that the application checklist won’t be available after noon on December 8…which was yesterday, and my daughter’s checklist is still up. :-/ It seems like maybe Admissions is having some tech/publicity mix-ups. But it’s ok! I know how hard they work, and how difficult their job is. The wait sucks, but I hope everything will be okay no matter what
I don’t understand why it’s taking so long to give a date. The suspense is so rough; their lack of transparency is really not appreciated during this stressful time. Has anyone called and asked what is going on?
@Javajava123 It’s a site which matches you with colleges for scholarships. So they would’ve probably heard back sooner because they need to know Fin Aid.
@TheOnceler all ED results are released on the same day at the same time. Even if PLME is the sole reason behind the delay (which has not been confirmed), all non-PLME results will be delayed as well.
@jackal278 that would be so not cool because students like me are such procrastinators…also every other university has released decisions so I don’t know why Brown can’t do the same.
While I can appreciate how stressful times are for applicants, one should recognize that the AO’s who are doing their best to go through 3000+ applications in 6 weeks.
I am told that in the olden days before the magma cooled and while dinosaurs roamed the earth, applicants had to wait by a thing called a mailbox until a person dressed in blue walked up at an unspecified date and time with an envelope with the decision. Perspective (and patience) please.
Though the lack of a specified release date concerns me, I agree with @skieurope. We really shouldn’t be making assumptions about the admissions process and/or any rumored problems regarding the delay. And, not all top schools have “released” their date – take WashU in STL and Dartmouth, for example.
I wish the best of luck to everyone who applied (including me, haha) and let’s hope that we get our results soon! Till then, I have finals to study for.
Though I agree with @skieurope to some extent, I think that you need to understand that this is frustrating for us too, and it would be nice for admissions to at least tell us what’s up. They put up a post with a specific date, then they took it down with no explanation. Then they said that the checklist on our portals would be gone by noon yesterday, and it’s still up. Although it’s stressful, I don’t mind having to wait extra time because I know that the admissions officers are saints and they work as hard as they can to get through all of these applications in a quick manner. Still, I agree with @Lutus221 in that some transparency would be nice. For example, can they explain the delay and at least give us a ballpark estimate of when we’ll get our decisions? The silence makes things even more stressful, in my opinion.
Agreed, @sciencenerd123 Of course the efforts of the admissions office are much appreciated, as they have to make extremely tough decisions in a very short amount of time. However, I’m sure Brown knows that we are expecting information, and I wish there was more transparency as to whether we can expect our decision in one week or in two weeks (winter break is coming up so quickly and many of us have yet to submit regular decision applications).
The whole thing is rather ridiculous. If my daughter has to agree to not apply to any other schools until she hears from her ED school (Brown) then there should be some responsibility on the University to give a decision in a timely manner. Some families travel over the holidays, etc and this puts added pressure not only on the student but on the whole family. There should really be a “no later than” date for all Schools. The date anticipation was cute for a while. Now it’s just downright disrespectful.
I’m sorry. That what I meant. It’s expensive to pay the app fees and to send test scores. So there’s no applying until we hear from Brown. It puts everyone in a bit of a tizzy during an already stressful situation.
