Brown Class of 2023 Applicants Discussion

Hi everyone I have a question. It probably signifies nothing but I feel like it won’t hurt to ask. I was deferred ED and had a financial doc uploaded that was requested by Brown, but they didn’t process it (it was unprocessed during the 2-3 weeks leading up to decisions). Now, I checked my portal a few days ago and saw that they processed it. Do you think this is a good sign? I’m just curious about what you all think.

@ashley_2023 It’s a good sign because if you get in you’ll get financial aid. But I believe that fin. aid and admissions are separate

Hey all, on my Brown portal, the mid-year report and transcript have changed from due Feb 20th to due as soon as the school made it available. Does anyone else have this change on this portal as well?

@simon11909 did your school send them yet?

@simon11909 Mine also both changed to “due as soon as available in your school” ! And both my Mid Year School Report and Mid Year Transcript were already uploaded and received in early January.

@ashley_2023 It may be or may not be. It definitely sounds like one, but you can never be too sure.

@PatriotsFan007 Tell your GC to send it to the general email ID for Brown’s AdCom. Tell your GC to send the letter as a PDF preferably with the schools stamp (if any) and the GC’s signature. Be sure to tell your GC to put your appropriate Reference Number as well.

@MyGPAIsAnL After Contacting another Top School’s AdCom, I got the reply that said that FinAid Committee and the AdCom work in parallel for efficiency and saving resources. They certainly wont process additional items for students that they’ve definitely decided against taking.

This is of course assuming Brown works like other tops schools, which I think it does.

@TheGuy1 Though you may be right, I don’t believe that financial need factors into admissions decisions

It means nothing. There are no tea leaves to be read.

@skieurope I agree.

@MyGPAIsAnL I agree as well, though all I’m saying is you never know what happens at the back end. It may mean anything good/neutral at worst, but the Colleges work well in secret to give such an indication.

@skieurope highkey might actually read tea leaves for brown (something I havent sown since I was ten but your comment reminded me it might be a good distraction)

Oh I’m fluctuating between reading tea leaves and burying myself in schoolwork so I don’t think about it XD @musemuse

For the two-minute video, does it have to be in exactly 2 minutes? I ended up made it to 2 minutes and 40 seconds after all the editing. Does this matter?

@“tiger!=vegetarian” I think its recommended to be that long? It wont stop you from uploading it on the app portal, but you cant be certain that they’ll watch it all. Maybe since its just +40s, they might. If you dont want to take the risk, then edit it (like speed it up) or cut on content which youve repeated in your app components (other parts).

@“tiger!=vegetarian” What I mean by ‘watch it all’ is that they’ll watch only the 1st 120s in the worst case scenario.

@TheGuy1 Thank you so much!

@LLAMALOVER101 congratulations!!

You previously posted “Michigan is my dream school so I am definitely going to be attending next year! Good luck to everyone who got deferred. This whole process is a crapshoot.”

So where are you going to attend. FYI likely letter won’t be reflected in portal or sent via email typically. GO BRUNO!!

@Nocreativity1 Michigan and Brown are my 2 top schools, both tied at #1 with Tufts and Yale not far behind. I am going to visit both Brown and Michigan for admitted students days. Honestly, I did not think I would get into either, yet alone both. I am in-state for Michigan so it is a lot cheaper, but I think Brown would be a more adventurous college experience. I really wish I could attend both schools…

Are likely letters only going going out to students who were deferred ED?
