From my understanding, need blind just means that one’s financial situation isn’t considered in the decision-making process-- not that the financial aid and admissions departments work independently of one another the entire time. Towards the end, wouldn’t they have to work together to ensure that financial aid packages for accepted students are finalized? Imo this is especially true for schools like Brown, which don’t immediately request docs on IDOC like Harvard. I honestly can’t say if an IDOC request in mid-late March means that someone has been accepted, but it does seem like a good sign/not entirely meaningless??
@barbietingz12 i agree with you. This trend with IDOC and having multiple docs besides css and fafsa has been something widely talked about with brown applicants for the last couple of years. Its not a random theory, seems that it has a lot of relevance
We’ll know for sure on thursday
It could be a good sign…but given the huge number of applicants applying for FA I would think the FA dept would have to process those requests efficiently during the 3 months they have before decisions are released with out knowing exactly who has been admitted. Of course there could be a few exceptions where FA realizes they are missing info close to the release date but I have to believe a lot of the FA process is somewhat automated.
@kerlykerls Some facts…
Brown doesn’t give admitted students their roommate or housing assignments until approximately 10 days before first move in dates. Until then all information is kept entirely confidential. This is done to avoid calls requesting changes or complaints.
Brown was founded in 1764. Over those 255 years they have learned a few things about how to handle the admissions process and maintain confidentiality.
I mention these two things together to highlight that Brown may be quirky but they do very little by accident. Their process has been refined not in terms of decades or generations but over centuries. To an even greater degree than housing, the admissions department is committed to secrecy. THERE ARE NO TEA LEAVES TO BE READ!
Lastly based upon the number of people on CC who believe they may be accepted based on the secret code, acceptance rates would be closer to 50%. Unfortunately on Thursday night RD will be closer to 5%. Translation…for every 1 acceptance there will be 19 rejections. Hopefully better on CC.
My sincere hope is that you all get accepted, but please don’t read anything into idoc document populations. Good luck everyone.
I wasn’t wondering about chances when I asked about the IDOC dashboard btw. Just wanted to know if anyone’s also having trouble getting in
On January 1, your admission application was placed in a sealed lead box with a radiation source, a switch to be activated by a Geiger-counter, and a bottle of acid. At some point in time, the radiation source may or may not trigger the switch and spill acid on your application. If your application has not been eaten by the acid by March 28 at 5pm EST, you will be accepted to Brown. Since it has been so long since you applied, theoretically it is now simultaneously both intact and destroyed. There is only one way to confirm your status - open the box after 5pm on 3/28 and ACTUALLY OBSERVE the results.
Everything else is purely speculation.
My son will be attending Brown starting this fall (accepted ED). I hope he gets to meet many of you.
Clifford speaks with much wisdom. Take heed of his advice.
I am, however, willing to read literal tarot cards or tea leaves, if anyone wants a reading. It’ll give you about as much information as speculation. Maybe more, depending on what you believe Besides, it’s a half decent way to pass the time until Thursday.
I think you guys are being a little harsh to @kerlykerls . While I believe it could be a long shot, I also find it hard to believe that financial aid would review every application without regards to admissions. That’s a lot of applications to review for so few admissions. Wouldn’t it make sense for them to focus on likely admitted students? I hope I’m wrong but it does sound logical.
@sdlivin2019 Not true. Ur wrong, and there is another set of logic that is still valid to be applied here, and its something that happens to be tru
If u find it hard to believe, believe it. Its true. The FAcom doesnt know whats on in the adcom. THey do their job and be prepared. THats how it always is regarding asking FA docs and processing them. Only a suggestive email from the adcom may show ur chances.
My GC phone called Brown a few hours ago, and found out that their FA office works parallel and is done so to optimize the readiness of FA packages when the adcom decides on that particular app.
They definitely start this later, but i think that the truly academically incompetent ones dont get anything processed (very few in no.) but i doubt that happens too.
Yes, my GC called them and straight up asked.
Also,
Brown specifically states their policy about not asking most families additional Finaid data. They wont be lying. I’m not citing it again, since some people still dont believe some things the school itself says, and bring up random ideas.
Again, there are personal anecdotes speaking FOR this, but I called them and asked if thats good enuf.
Again, while schools dont reveal some stuff, what they reveal is true anyways.
Yes, correction to the FAFSA. I don’t know what it means though. Didn’t ask.
@TheGuy1 I appreciate the info you provide and in no way am I suggesting that Brown or any university is lying. I’m just supporting the theory that changes to FA portal could imply interest or not being ruled out. I just don’t feel it’s necessary to ridicule someone for having some shred of hope regardless of how absurd you view it to be. We will all know soon enough. Good luck to everyone and I hope you get the news you’ve been waiting for!
Thanks @NMParent000079 . The idea’s not entirely my own. A while back I was in Germany and I was absolutely dialed-in on this cat. I was inches away from the bugger when some scientist dude snatched him up and chucked him into a box much like the one I described.
Sometimes I almost pity that feline.
Almost.
TheGuy1 has to be a jokester right LOL Dude with all due respect, you gotta chill out with your self righteous and superior matter-of-fact attitude please. I get that it’s annoying that the same point keeps being brought up but you’re kind of being toxic man. We have 2 more days. By then, you can rest easy with satisfaction once these people speculating (me included!) start feeling pretty silly once we get our decisions and proved brutally wrong by the cold hard truth, while you get your nice, garunteed acceptance into Brown.
@sdlivin2019 I mustve misread your comment then. Apologies.
@intricuit Duly noted. Any sarcasm was failed to be detected by me.
No harsh feelings man <3
It’s all good man. I just wanna help everyone on here and diffuse many people’s anxieties through whatever sources I have.
Sometimes I complicate situations?
But I honestly cant detect sarcasm at times. Please do tell me if u were PM/here.
Hope everyone’s happy by the 1st week of april.
One more day everyone, let’s all hope and pray for the best outcome. All positivity?
36 ish hours left. For some reason I feel a lot calmer about this decision compared to my other ones. Maybe it’s because the acceptance rate is so low? And I have a snowball’s chance in hell, but what can you do, yknow
