Brown Class of 2023 Applicants Discussion

My counselor just forwarded me an email from Brown. 4.8%. We love that.

Good luck everyone!

MODERATOR’S NOTE:
Might I remind members of the forum rules: “Our forum is expected to be a friendly and welcoming place.”

This is a stressful time for everyone, so let’s support each other instead of throwing shade at one another. The snark ends now.

Best of luck to all.

4.8%? @fleetedsummer

I thought Browns rate was more than that definitely?

THe email was of the RD decision cycle ending and results and stuff?

@TheGuy1 Hope this helps with the math…

I posted this estimate yesterday based upon what we know. Appears to be close given the 4.8% announce…

Last year (Class of 2022 total acceptance rate was 7.2%)

This year’s ED round 4,230 applications (20.8% YOY increase) and 769 acceptances (4.3% YOY increase).

Total applications received 38,640 (9% YOY increase).

RD round 34,410 applications (7.7% YOY increase).

Last year Brown accepted a total of 2,566 applicants. Of that total 1,829 were RD applicants.

What we can approximate:

Brown will likely accept fewer total students this year having offered 32 “committed” ED spots. Additionally, the “Brown Promise” is anticipated to increase yield. With that in mind it is conservative to anticipate total acceptances reduced by 66 spots to 2,500 and consequently RD spots to 1,731.

That will likely result in a total acceptance rate of 6.5% or slightly lower and an RD rate of approx 4.7% once the 2,326 ED deferred students are accounted for in the RD pool.

These are just estimates but likely close to where things should land. Good luck to everyone given how challenging the odds are.

Just for reference last year’s top 20 based on lowest acceptance rate in descending order:

1 Stanford 4.3%
2 Harvard 4.6%
3 Princeton 5.5%
4 Columbia 5.5%
5 Yale 6.3%
6 Caltech 6.5%
7 MIT 6.7%
8 Pomona 6.9%
9 Brown 7.2%
10 U Chicago 7.2%
11 Duke 8.3%
12 U Penn 8.4%
13 Northwestern 8.4%
14 Dartmouth 8.7%
15 Swarthmore 9.1%
16 Johns Hopkins 9.9%
17 Cornell 10.3%
18 Bowdoin10.3%
19 Rice 10.8%
20 Williams 12.2%

Once again good luck everyone !!

I checked my D’s Brown Portal today.

It says “To view your Financial Aid application status, please visit Banner Self-Service.”

When we click the link, I’ve copied and pasted what comes up below:

Is that what is coming up for everyone else? I am no longer able to see the checklist for her financial aid profile.

@fleetedsummer what is 4.8% is it the acceptance rate for Brown? I think last I read Brown was 7.2 as of last year with 1637 Freshmen.

I am taking off tomorrow to stay with my kid… we are waiting for 8 school results… Good luck to everyone on this forum…

@salma45 I think that directory should be the same for all.

@Nonomom @Nocreativity1 THanks. So the rate is 7% ish and thats safe to assume. Cool

@fleetedsummer Not sarcastic! GOt it. so 1.8K RD purely, and 0.8 ED purely. Good no’s. (UPDATE)

@Nonomom and @TheGuy1 here’s what part of the email said

“Brown received 38,674 applications for the Class of 2023, which constitutes a 9 percent increase over last year. This is the largest application pool in the University’s history. Brown will make 1,784 Regular Decision offers of admission to the incoming Class of 2023, in addition to the 769 Early Decision admission offers made in December. The overall admit rate for this year’s pool is 6.6 percent. The Regular Decision admit rate is 4.8 percent.”

I hope my good luck statement didn’t come out as sarcastic, I really do wish everyone the best.

Ahhhhh im so nervous even though I have great options brown is my topppp. I feel so stupid I just keep rereading my supplements :frowning:

@salma45 My checklist for financial aid is still there

For RD this year.

That’s last year, and is combined ED and RD,

What time the decision will be released?

Tomorrow at 7 pm EST (in less than 24 hours!)

According to Ivy Coach, last year Brown’s RD rate is around a 5.7%

Wow

Remember, they take about 2.6K kids of about 35K.

1.8K will be taken up now.

1.8K-ish enroll, of which 0.8K are ED’s.

Each ones chances differ from the usual rate. If u have read the Harvard’s ‘classification’ blog, they say how each students chances differ based off their eval’s. Its unwise to stick the 7.2% stamp on all applicants.

THis is making the plane uniform, which is not the case. It depends on personal apps.

I wish you all the best. Last year our family went through this. One of the hardest days of our lives. Ended up well … our kid is at Brown and he absolutely loves it. But the anticipation is brutal.

@olooooolo same. & I threw up from stress this morning (yikes). Super thrilled this is coming out over spring break, but I wish I wasn’t too distracted to fully focus on scholarship applications. Also may’ve mapped out all the courses I need to take to graduate with my chosen double major and a minor in four years for my safety. Because panic. Which is ridiculous because I really don’t think I’ll be accepted to Brown anyway, but I still have this lingering hope for a miracle. I just need this to be resolved so I can move on with my life, whatever direction that may be.

Aw take it easy @musemuse ! I know it’s stressful, we’re all going through the motions right now. Just try to meditate and distract yourself with other things in the meantime. Don’t overwhelm yourself and end up making yourself sick. Your mental health and sanity are important. This whole process is almost over, don’t worry ?

@AstroEducator Just curious, were your son rejected from any schools he applied to?
