Congratdulations all students who accepted. one question, my son applied pre-med and got deferred. does his pool will back to pre-med right? Thanks
congrats on the acceptances- great accomplishment, especially this year it seems! My son was deferred… can’t be surprised but was still hoping for a miracle…
I’m hoping for the best for him! Remember that anything can happen, no matter how unlikely the percentages may make it seem.
Congrats to you!!! @haydennr
S21 accepted!!
I’m honestly blown away. We have an appointment booked for tomorrow with a writing coach to work on his CA essay.
Here are his stats:
1590 SAT (taken fall of sophomore year), 800 math 2 SAT, was going to take chemistry and lit, but couldn’t due to COVID
GPA 4.4 ish Weighted
Grade 10-AP stats (5) and Calc BC (5), Grade 11- Lang (4), Chem (3, didn’t report), US history (3, didn’t report), Grade 12- Lit, Psych, comp sci A, physics C, Seminar
He is a pointy math kid- he’s taken multi variable calc, linear algebra and differential equations through Harvard extension and has competed in math competitions (doing fairly well in AIME, but never making it to the USAMO level)
His ECs are pretty average- running (good, but not recruitable), math team (captain)
He does have great numbers, but is an average middle class white male from a mid level suburban high school outside of Boston. He hasn’t started a non profit, done research or spearheaded a new club at school. Not sure what made him stand out among all of the other candidates with very similar stats… Perhaps it was the letters of REC?? Btw, his essay was about running (the most cliche topic ever… we even joked that no other kid applying to any ivy would do a sports essay, so maybe it’s new and fresh now ). Just feeling beyond grateful right now.
Does Brown look for Continued interest letters from deferred students?
Pre-med is not a concentration, but an advising track. If he applied for the PLME, he will still be considered for the PLME RD.
Do they require it? No, but if you’re still interested in Brown and have any updates it’s worth sending a LOCI.
Maybe in got in the super-high stats bucket, lol. Whatever it was, a big congrats to him. He must be so excited!
Just want to say that last year my son was deferred from Brown, then deferred from his ED2, and then accepted to both with several other great schools, regular decision). It made for an exhausting several months but it was so exciting in the end for him to be able to weigh all of his options and truly envision himself at each school before making a decision. Good luck and chin up!
thanks! where did end up going?
Brown
Guys, it really hasn’t hit me that I was accepted. This has been my dream for so long and for it to finally be a reality just seems beyond the realm of possibility.
I want to thank all of you on this thread for providing some comfort and a sense of camaraderie during this process, even if it was for a short amount of time. I also want to say that I know all of you are brilliant and talented, so, if you didn’t get in today, do not lose all hope. Keep on pushing forward; you guys are gonna achieve such great things!
congrats again @haydennr You helped me too- because I saw your stats and felt better that my son was losing out to candidates like you.
@haydennr I’m extremely happy for you. You deserve this moment and I bet your family is so thrilled for you. My son was deferred but seeing how happy you are made my day. Someone else’s kid made it to Brown :). Congrats!
Our DD has been accepted to Brown! Can’t really believe it, especially as we were advised that Test-Optional was impossible, so thank you Brown for understanding that Covid prevented many students from taking exams, particularly abroad (we are UK/US citizenship living in the UK); IB predicted grades 44/45. Great essays and lots of experience in Classical and French studies. Planning double concentration in Classics and Chemistry. She is thrilled! And she did it all on her own back - no college counsellors (not really a thing in the UK) – just sheer determination.
I set up a poll for recording your result, if you are intersted. Good luck to you all and stay strong!
I’m happy I could help! And I really am hoping for the best for your son. You never know, he could get into Brown during the RD round. It’s all so random
