Hi. I’m taking beginning modern dance this semester (I know because it is my CAP class), and I was wondering if there is naything specific you need to wear for the class. I know that people in dance classes sometimes have to wear a very specific uniform. Like, I know at NYU you have to wear black jazz pants and a white t shirt for some dance classes. Does anyone know if there is a required outfit for dance at Brown? Or will sweat pants and a tank top do? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much!

This is a question for the professor. Look up the professor and if you can’t find the name, email the department asking your question. This is information you will receive on the first day of class, anyway.

Okay, thanks!!

Is that a club, or do you get a grade to dance?

While we do have extracurricular dance troupes, Brown has a variety of for-credit dance classes.

What I am looking at is a class through the theater, speech, and dance department. A dance or dance history class is required for my major (theater).

I took this class my first semester. There is not dress code. Just wear clothes you can move in. I usually wore sweatpants (or track shorts) and a t-shirt. The girls usually wore tights and a tank top. Socks or barefoot for your feet.

Thanks so much, AmbitiousMind. That is very helpful information!

It’s good to see some excitement about the class! I’ll be vagabonding it so perhaps I’ll see you around in the fall!

I certainly hope so. Thank you again, because I feel like you are the person who has given me the most specific information on this site (including on the scheduling thread). I feel like you have taken all the classes I plan to take. LOL! Thanks again.
