Brown Early Decision for Fall 2022 Admission

congratulations!!

Very happy for you. Congratulations!

My D was deferred. She’s sad, but it’s okay. Better than reject I guess. Congrats to all those who got in.

D rejected. But I’m confident she and anyone else who was confident enough to apply to Brown ED but wasn’t accepted are incredible and will get some place, or many places, that are great schools.

Hey MommaLue - I think I read in an earlier post that your son was initially deferred? My son was deferred tonight. Any insight you can give to that process? The letter asked to submit mid term grades and vaguely suggested other pertinent info. I guess we will find out more tomorrow from CC but thought I’d ask what we might be able to additionally submit? Thanks in advance and CONGRATULATIONS to all those who were accepted tonight.

Curious. Do you mind sharing his stats, EC and particularly what he did to demonstrate his interest in medicine. TIA

I would plan to send a letter of continued interest and send it about first week of Jan or so.

My son updated the admission officer some new ECs and shared that Brown was still his number once choice. Keep it 2-3 paragraphs.

Upload to portal and also send the pdf to the admission officer’s email.

Counselor should be submitting first semester grade in Jan. My son actually also told the AO that his would be delayed til Feb due to a correction a teacher had to make. Our HS counselor was awesome but the teacher who was delaying it was a total a-hat.

D22 got in!

Stats:
SAT 1550
GPA 4.0 UW/4.83 W
8AP total
ECs (nothing crazy): 10+ years violin (all state orchestra for all high school years), 2 years composition (won some awards), 8 years fencing, 9 years summer swimming, 3 years high school quizbowl (but she really loves it and talked about it in one of her essays)

We are so happy! No more applications for her:)

Sorry to hear that your daughter was not accepted - but I agree that she will end up in a great place

Sorry to hear that. I hope she isn’t sad for too long - I am certain she will end up at a great school

Getting in to Brown will not make or break you. Nor will any other college. You will get in to a great college. In the real world no one cares where you went after your first year.

These colleges are a crap shoot. My view is ED should be eliminated. But schools use this process for marketing without a care for the student and the toll it takes on them.

I know some very smart students who didn’t get it in. I didn’t got to Brown or for that matter to any Ivy League school for my undergraduate and I am VERY successful. Keep you chin up. It’s your determination and hard work which will be the biggest factors for your success.

I agree with you 100%. ED is a bit of a scam and puts unnecessary pressure on kids. If you dig into the numbers, unless you’re a URM or recruited athlete, your chances for ED at a top school are super slim. My older D applied ED to a top school and was rejected. She ended up getting into a bunch of amazing schools, including an Ivy League. She ended up choosing UVA, a place that wasn’t even on our radar (just a toss in EA application). She fell in love with the school, had an amazing experience, and is starting at a top 20 med school next year. All her friends have really good, high-paying jobs lined up. Giving our kids options is so much better than putting everything into an ED school, but yet we did it again. Pressure from advisers, many of whom know very little. I don’t think we will let our youngest ED anywhere.

Bottom line is that things work out, usually for the better. Those who got in will do great, and those who didn’t will do just as well.

Thanka Advitha. She was not ready to go to school this morning. The rejection was very hard on her. The first rejection is always hard on these young kids.

It happens. Mine wanted to go to MIT Primes, she did everything she could but didn’t get selected. She still feels for it but eventually found something she’s passionate about. Things always happen for good cause. Lets hold on for tomorrow’s decisions.
