I also explained and elaborated on the activities that were the most important to me (even if they weren't "obscure" or "rare") because I felt that if I just gave them a list, they wouldn't see how significant they were to me. I got accepted, and I also received a letter from my regional admission officer congratulating me on my acceptance and stating how she enjoyed reading about my interests. If you're having doubts that a list won't be enough, I say that you should elaborate as much as you need to (but no fluff, of course).

To those of you who wrote separate paragraphs, did they relate to each other at all? I'm having trouble making this whole essay cohesive. Should I not worry about it and just write a few separate paragraphs on a few separate ECs?

I feel really confused now, because mine is just a resume of about 1 page long. Is it bad and should I add more stuff like additional paragraphs? I mean I really didn't think I needed all that...

Mine's not really an essay...

For each activity, I wrote the name, grade and hours. Then I had a paragraph explaining it. Is it alright to do this?

pearlgirl237: My paragraphs were completely unrelated to each other. They were separate so they weren't like an essay at all.

magnetique: If you think your resume is enough, then don't add more stuff. It's not "bad" in any way to just submit a resume - as long as it clearly shows what you have been involved with in high school.

GoldShadow: Yeah, I think that would be fine.

Because the ECs section is so open-ended, I think that you guys can do it however you would like to -- there is no right or wrong way to do it.

I have a 3.5 page resume ive been sending to every school. Should I just do the list for Brown (since that's what the ask for) and then send the resume as an attachment? I think the list is just in place of the section of commonapp that asks for your ecs in the grid. Brown does ask you to LIST...

Thanks Orestes.

Well, I did it. I submitted my application. My EC/Awards section was a little longer than 2 pages.

With my teacher rec's and transcript, i sent in my 2 page resume i send to every college. then i uploaded a 1 page excel sheet (which I expanded the margins to fit as much as possible on one page haha) and then I sent in separately an additional information/explanation sheet that was about 3.5 pages of just paragraphs after paragraphs.
