Essays: I thought my Brown supplemental essays were excellent. I think my passion for science, volunteer work, and music really shone through and gave a great impression of who I am as a person. My “Why Brown” essay was really fun to write because I have quite a bit of insight into the school and went on a campus tour last April; talked about the open curriculum and academic flexibility and how diverse, open-minded, and welcoming Brown is, all that good stuff.
My Common App personal statement wasn’t as good as the Brown ones, but still pretty good.
Rec Letters:
- 9/10 from my junior year AP English Lang teacher (she’s also my AP English Lit teacher this year). I really excelled in her class and actively participated in the class discussions, put a lot of work into my assignments, etc. She knows me well and seems to think pretty highly of me.
- 10/10 from my Latin teacher. He is also my former violin teacher, as I took violin lessons from him from ages 3-12, so I have known him for an extremely long time.
- 8/10 from the Primary Investigator for the lab I worked in this past summer. She seemed to like me a lot and was always complimenting me on how hardworking and engaged I was. Wouldn’t give it a 9 or 10 though cuz I didn’t really get to talk to her that much, as she was always super busy, haha.
