I’m guessing you’re going to take SAT and/or ACT again? Your scores are kind of low.
While a 29 does fall in the (lower end) of the middle 59%, keep in mind that those on the lower end were probably not normal applicants. They most likely had very strong hooks and could have also been URM, recruited athletes, etc.
You have this whole summer–I for my SAT I just did as many practice tests as possible. After a while all the questions just start to seem the same!

Your karate EC sounds great–stress how it really sets you apart.
(From what I’ve heard from admissions officers) you really want to try and stand out and be one of those memorable applications when they meet to make decision.
What will you bring to the school? How are you different from just any top student?
I personally think essays can help an application a lot.

The test scores are quite low, but Brown obviously looks at the whole picture and may decide your ECs and academics are enough. We have no real understanding of the difficulty of the institutions at which you are enrolled, meaning we can’t say if your grades are great or no better than any other similar GPA in the country.

Your application would feel a lot more complete with higher test scores, but who knows what will happen. Good luck.

“my letters of rec will be superb with a possible letter from a brown professor after the summer program” Err, just wanted to say that you won’t be getting a letter from that professor. The Brown Summer Program has an incredibly disinterested academic “style”. And by that I mean your professors won’t know you at all. In fact many of them aren’t professors at Brown. So it’s actually better not to ask for a recommendation from your brown proff, since it won’t be a "good one (they don’t know you, or just know you very superficially).

mcgoogly … she actually wrote me a very good personal letter. she knew me very well and knew the effort i put into my work and it showed in her letter. my guidance counselor was extremely impressed with the letter. and she was a brown professor. her and the assistant prof were employed by brown.

To be honest, Oneal, asking for your chances in the context of a school like Brown will do nothing for you. Once you exceed past a certain score (from what I’ve been told), it really depends on who you are as a person. Scores are by no means the most important component of the application. I know a few people who had scores that exceeded yours, had an excellent GPA and oustanding ECs, yet they were rejected. That being said, it really comes down to your essays and, like the others said, how good of a hook you have. If you haven’t read responses in the other “Chance Me” boards, then I suggest you do so.

I wish you all the best in the application process!

Wow I really think you have an amazing shot as long as you didn’t send in your SAT score. This has to be one of the best profiles I have ever seen.
