Basically, I am deciding between applying to Brown ED and Harvard EA. I know that I have a better chance at Brown but, I don't want the early decision restriction. My school sends 4 kids to Brown each year and about 1 kid to Harvard each year. My school doesn't rank but I'm guessing I'm in the top 5%. Harvard is my dream school so that is where my heart is telling me to apply to. However, realistically the school I have the best shot at is Brown. Thanks for reading and I WILL CHANCE BACK.

It would be nice to know race, gender, geographic location, and major preference to really chance more accurately…
but you quite honestly you have a pretty good chance.
Ivies are always reaches because they are Ivies.
If your heart isn’t really set for Brown and that shows, remember that they might catch on and drop you. Brown and Harvard are also really different, so if you really are in love with Harvard, its a little hard to imagine that you would be absolutely happy with Brown if you were to get in and tied down with ED.
I would recommend doing EA to Harvard.
You have great chances wherever you apply, and I wish you the best of luck in this stressful time!!!

Im also an Indian male from the North East (Long Island). I would recommend going for brown, your various, although a bit scattered, ec’s will help you fit in. I do think that the lack of focus may hurt you for harvard though.

I recommend not doing Early Decision unless you’re sure you will love the school. You do have a shot at Harvard, but clearly, your overall chances are much higher if you do ED at Brown. It really depends on how much you prefer Harvard over Brown.

I think your statistical chances say Brown, but if your heart (and not the prestige or whatever) says Harvard, then Harvard it is. Like others, I would say your EC’s are a bit scattered but it may be just the way you have them organized here. You have a decent shot at Brown as a mid-reach and a bit less at Harvard, but as you’ve always heard it’s a … crapshoot :). The essay is underrated on CC so it could very well be a huge factor for you, especially if it elaborates upon an EC important to you.

Harvard for sure. I had the option of Columbia ED and Princeton SCEA, and I definitely chose EA. I’d want to be as open to as many options as possible, seeing as you have a good chance at Brown RD anyways, and Harvard isn’t out of the question.

Your unweighted GPA and test scores are on the low side, but you have some solid EC’s. Go for it!
