How is Brown’s engineering program viewed in the professional world. Is it seen as a top notch engineering school? I know its like the 3rd oldest program in the country, but that doesn’t mean it’s the best. Any views or rankings on this subject are welcome.

brown does not have a top engineering "school"--engineering at brown is more like a large department. the biggest limitation will be the depth and scope of the research enterprise in comparison to, say MIT.

that being said, engineering at brown has its advantages, just as engineering at a place like harvard does. you will be in a liberal arts setting, which means you will be in a culture where the humanities and social are valued (this is not necessarily the case at MIT, where though the humanities and social departments are strong, they are not taken seriously by the rest of the community).

at brown it also means you can take advantage of being at brown and all its trappings--beyond your engineering requirements you are free to shop classes and explore the open curriculum, hang out with ehud barak after a sponsored lecture, etc.

and at the end of the day, brown engineers do just fine, landing top jobs and grad school placement
