Brown For Engineering

Hi all,

I am an International student, currently studying 12th Grade in a school which follows Indian curriculum CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education).

I just wanted to know what my chances are in getting admission for Mechanical Engineering,

I don’t have GPA grading in my school. The grading is purely based on marks obtained:
9th - 85% (maths-A, science-A, social studies-A, English-B, Hindi-B)
10th - 90% (maths-A, science-A, social studies-A, English-A, Hindi-B)
11th – 75%(maths-C,physics-A,chemistry-B,computer science-A,English-A)

Rank : Top 10% - The counselor has also mentioned that I take the most rigorous courseload available in school

I had also received a scholarship in grade 11 due to my academic excellence in grade 10. It is only offered to students who have passed out of grade 10 with really high grades in the Central Board of Secondary Examination. Approximately every year around 10 students receive such a scholarship.

3) Made Robot for science exhibition which uses sensors to travel through a maze and then using LED’s to show the intensity of the light in its path.
4) I have also been learning Carnatic Music violin for over 4 years and have recently won 3rd place in the Inter-House Talent contest held in my school.

14) Going to do community service as soon as my exams get over - around 20 hours in a hospital.

SAT SCORES:
MATH - 730
CR – 600 :frowning: - i know these 2 are really low for Brown students
W - 640 :(

SAT II SCORES
MATH - 650 :frowning: - Don’t know how the h**l this happened…was expecting 700+)
PHYSICS - 710
CHEMISTRY - 740

Can’t say much about the essays because i feel they are good but it depends on the adcoms view point.

Recommendations from the Guidance counselor and Teachers are excellent. Read all of them.

My math teacher mentioned about my C in the recommendation by stating that even though i got only a C, in comparison to the class my scores were really high and that i had the analytical and logical thinking that is most essential in mathematics.

AID : DO NOT REQUIRE FINANCIAL AID - if it makes a difference

Take the ACT's dude...( www.act.org ).. They were much easier than the SAT's for me.

i'm also applying to brown engineering, and i have some low grades and my sat II scores are pretty average. i'm hoping that they'll look a little bit at me as a person... you sound really interesting so i wouldn't rule it out because of grades and exam scores. the reality of it is... it's a crap shoot. good luck!

Good job on the 90% in the boards man! CBSE prepares students well for college courseload! Good luck with the admissions process!

i cant take the ACT's as they are only available in America and for that i must study in an O/A level school......which i dont so......

That is incorrect..

ACT testing is conducted in India and there is no reqirement that you need to study in an O/A level school. I was a CBSE student until 10th after which I came to the US..

http://www.actstudent.org/regist/outside.html

try the ACT. the next sitting in india is this saturday ie 9th dec.
i am also a CBSE student and am planning to apply brown for engineering. from the brown website i found out that the engineering program is quite good.

but ill be needing a good amt of fin aid to attend brown. is brown generous in giving fin aid to intls?

Does Brown accept the January test of ACT because i have not registered for the December Test. And if it does then i might just go ahead and give the test

Check the Brown website out....
