Brown for science

How good is Brown’s reputation for UG sciences, specifically biology (genetics/molecular/cell biology) and physics? I realize Brown’s grad departments aren’t ranked very high, but then again it seems to be more like Dartmouth in its concentration on undergrads. Would I be as well off for applying to Phd/MD or Physics PhD programs if I went to Brown instead of a university known for strength in both of these fields (like UofC or Cornell)? Brown’s open curriculum is really appealing, but it doesn’t strike me as a university known for science.

Generally, speaking Brown isn't as widely known for its strengths in the sciences as it is for liberal arts. That being said, certain departments are very strong--I can personally vouch for the undergraduate neuroscience program. I wrote my undergrad neuroscience thesis with the 1972 nobel laureate in physics (now the director of Brown's Brain Sciences Program), and then applied to MD/PhD programs. Feel free to e-mail me anytime

dcircle, which concentration in neuroscience did you go for? I was considering Cognitive Neuroscience but can you just expand on that vs. Neuroscience? What was your thesis about?
