I was contacted for a email interview. My interviewer listed some questions and all I need to do is to write down my answers and to email them to him.

andloveyelledno: As I keep saying, there is no typical or normal interview. The ONLY person who knows what your interviewer wants to see is your interviewer. I canât read her mind. Either you ask her, or you interpret what you think she wants to see and send it.

knightwinner: I think that is absolutely horrible and in my opinion it goes 100% against the purpose that Brown has for its interviews. Absolutely no interviews should be done via email. I would strongly urge you to report this person to admissions.

Or BASC = [BAA - Volunteer & Give: Contact BASC](<a href=âVolunteer | Alumni & Friends | Brown Universityâ>Volunteer | Alumni & Friends | Brown University)

Please do, thatâs pretty lame. It wonât hurt your chances I promise.

BASC is the office that coordinates interviews, so I agree with wolfmanjack that it would be appropriate to report any issues there.

It really really bothers me that an alum would conduct an email interview. Honestly, my blood boils. It is unfair to the applicant and gives the applicant a poor impression of Brown â which is the exact opposite intent of the interviewing process! Itâs bad enough that we have to resort to phone interviews and Skype and group interviews that seem more like speed dating. Frankly, if an alum canât devote an hour to an interview, they shouldnât volunteer.

Does anyone know when will Brown finish all of its alumni interviews?

They are due Feb. 15. But I wouldnât be surprised if reports will be accepted through March 1.

Yep. She was very professionalâŠIâm worried I wasnât very impressive
but thatâs all done now. I just have to wait.
Thank you so much for your help, fireandrain, this thread was incredibly informative :]

Has anyone other than me still not been contacted yet?

^You are not alone. My son has not been contacted yet either.

hey for those who had interviews did your interviewer set up a kind of way that would allow you to recognize them? For example telling each other what colored shirt you both will be wearing, or I guess a basic description of each other?

^ Ahahahahaha, just what I was wondering! My interview is tomorrow and I donât even think my emails are getting through to my interviewer (irritating server issues!!!).

But I guess experienced interviewers have a knack for spotting sweaty, nervous teenagers in coffee shops.

I just had my interview and it went great!
I didnât have the interviewer I expected, which actually made it a lot better. We talked for about an hour, had a lot in common, and she never even had to look at my resume. Yay. :)

^ I did tell her I was going to have a red folder. At a previous interview it took me 15 minutes to find my interviewer who was hiding in a corner.

just got called today to set up an interview- scheduled for monday =) thank you so, so much for setting up this thread fireandrain, it has really helped calm my nervesâŠwhen she called, i was fine, and then a few seconds after i hit panic mode when i started thinking about all the things that could go wrong thanks so much for all the tips everyone!

I am an international and I was asked to choose between a Skype and a phone interview. I know my question may sound dumb, but does an interview on Skype imply typing or actual talking?

Skype is talking â itâs using your computer as a phone. If you have a camera on your computer, then you video chat. Itâs free, which is the best thing.

Is it best to choose the Skype option? Iâm thinking about the alumniâs phone billâŠ

hi fireandrain,
i know that you said that interview arenât deciding factors for admission and arenât a huge aspect of the application as a whole, but i was wondering if maybe my interviewer can change that:
my interview was exactly 2 hours long and the only reason it ended was because another prospective student called her (her interview was scheduled for 7:30 and it was already 7:50 and my interview was still going on). throughout the whole interview, the interviewer was cracking up and became really comfortable with me, and she even said, âi really hope you get into brown,â and, âi wish these interviews counted more because i want to get you in so badly,â and comments like that. she offered advice, said she would ask admissions about something that might increase my chances of getting in, and she told me to call her with questions any time. she seemed as if she genuinely wanted to get me in and would try hard to make that possible.
if she put comments that conveyed these feelings in her report, do you think brown would be impressed and would give some more weight to my interview? would this positively affect me in any significant way?
thank you so much in advance.

^wow, and i felt happy when i got a 45 minute interview today. (after reading that others got 10-15 minute ones)
my interview started off with her asking me if i had any questions. everything flowed together really well and the time flew by. she talked a lot, and seemed genuinely nice. i sure hope everyone at brown are like that. :)

Iheartmiles: in a word â no. Sorry to say, but many interview reports are that positive, and the rejection rate is still 90%.
