Brown interview

who did you have?

One thing that seems for sure is that everyone who graduated from Brown went on to do great things.

My interview was a lot less scary than I thought it was.

I got a voice mail from alumni
she said if i had any questions i should call her....

if i call her... will that be a phone interview?

Certainly sounds like it, Fav. Do it!

thanks xSteven :)

I just received a phone call from Brown and I was told that it was application questions, but it was also noted that it takes about 45 minutes. Is this an interview? If not, then what is it?

It's an interview, dcs. Many alumni choose to do phone interviews, your interviewer is one of them. Most interviews do, on average, last 45-60 minutes and consist of questions, so.. it is.

I just got an email from my interviewer. Can anyone gimme tips?

Like for dress/what to know before hand/questions interview will ask/what I should bring?

To the Brown alumni interviewers on this board, I am just curious... How many applicants do you usually interview?

scared: All your questions are answered on this forum, in various threads. The search function is your friend.

anthology: Me personally -- usually I interview about 3 a year. This year I interviewed 7, which is the most ever for me.

My interviewer had only interviewed 2, including me.

Question. I had a phone interview, yet another girl from my school had a "face-to-face" interview. Is this an innuendo; perhaps to the fact that I am surely not getting admitted (or rather, that Brown is far more interested in her, than I)?

The "interview" took about 10 minutes. He just asked me about some school activities, how I had heard of Brown, and if I had any questions. I had about two to four questions, ranging from his experiences to the curriculum. This ties into my previous post and Brown not caring...?

S Yoshi: There is no connection between the length of your interview or where and how it takes place and your viability as a candidate. None, zero, zilch.

The person who assigns applicants to interviews knows you as a name -- s/he does not see your application, doesn't know anything about you. Why the girl might have gotten one interview and you another -- could be totally random, could be based on geography (she lives closer to that interviewer), could be based on academic or EC interest (a doctor might be assigned to interview a bio major).

I'm sorry you didn't have an awesome interview, but with the huge increase in applicants Brown had to scramble to find enough alums to interview all the students this year.

fireandrain, thanks so much for helping out and answering questions - I appreciate it a lot! I have another question if you don't mind answering, do you alum interviewers find out who was accepted via the Brown admissions office or do you find out only if the people you interview contact you and let you know?
My interviewer was so awesome and really made Brown my first choice... and if I were to be accepted come April, I would love to let him know etc etc.

anthology, we used to get a letter with that information. I think they've discontinued the letters, and instead we can look it up on a dedicated website (that we need to log onto). The information is put up 4 or 5 days after you learn (it's part of the Ivy contract that there is a grace period during which time you can't be contacted) and is only up for about a week. So it is possible for interviewers to miss the window to learn results.

We are supposed to contact you, especially if you are accepted, because then we are supposed to convince you to go!

i was never contacted about an interview. brown is the only school i didnt interview for. should i be worried? is it too late to call the school, or would that not help me at all? im kinda worried :(

bbut, you shouldn't be worried -- it's not your fault that you didn't have an interview, and it doesn't mean anything about your viability as an applicant. You can call Brown and see if something can be worked out, but the window for doing interviews is quickly closing -- nothing will happen after this weekend. So either call today or forever hold your peace.

I live in NY, my interviewer came to my school yesterday and we sat down and talked for 90 minutes. She had some typical questions but mostly it was just like a conversation. I did a semester abroad program in California for art so that’s what we mostly talked about. She seemed really interested. I think you just need to present your personal story and come off really personable and mature.
