Sorry if this question’s already been asked on here; I couldn’t find a recent thread. Has anyone had their Brown interview yet, and if so what was it like? Did your interviewer see a copy of your application ahead of time, or was there a worksheet you had to fill out to provide that information? Just trying to gauge what to expect.

I just had mine yesterday morning. It was a whole lot less stressful than you're probably making it out to be. Most of it was just me asking the interviewer my questions. Whatever you do, make sure you have some great questions lined up, and have an answer to "Why Brown instead of [insert other Ivy League]?"

Mine was realllllly casual. It was great.

There are several recent threads about Brown interviews.

Interviews do not see applications, transcripts, recommendations. We know your name, get contact info and get a brief list of extracurricular activities (i.e., "literary pubs," "music") and the academic area you are considering.

Some interviewers are more formal than others, but there is no standard list of questions.

My interviewer thought I was applying to PLME...

I don't get it, I haven't gotten an interview/any info about interviews from any college I applied to including Brown. Some sort of bad sign?

My friend who applied ED got an interview, but I haven't been contacted yet. I really want one; should I call and ask?

No. They'll contact you if it's gonna happen.

Yeah.

I think the Brown parts of it went really well, but I freeze up whenever I'm asked about other colleges, and my interviewer did that a lot.

I'd still say it went pretty well, though.

I think they all have a sheet with some basic information about the applicant...because mine knew my intended major and my activities. We sort of went from there.

Also he started off with "Why Brown"

casual and really nice, about 30 minutes.

so i got an interview but the lady told me
"dont forget to bring your CD?"
and i have no cluee what that is...
she didnt mean.. like a compact disc?
but when i asked her what it was .. she was really unclear
and all iheard was "somethingsomethign college somethingsomething"
hahah so.. just wondering if anyone knows what she meant by that?
eeek! my interviews next wed !and im quite worried!

Are you sure she didn't say CV? That'd be your resume...

My interview was really awkward and weird, and I didn't feel too positive about it. Still got in ED.

maybeeee.
it was hard to hearr on the phonee
so resumeee?
(like. extracurriculars & grades?.. i never actually made onee ?)

i have a friend who got into cornell ED and had no interview...don't stress out about this thing...it really does not matter that much...if you have an otherwise strong application, you need not fear the "dreaded" interview...just go there and try to enjoy yourself...all you're really doing is talking about your life and then the interviewer talks about brown...

anyway? -- she probably meant CV, which does mean resume (although it is presumptuous of her to assume that a HS student would know that). Bring the activities sheet you used for the application. She DOES NOT need to know your grades or SAT scores. Frankly, she doesn't need the resume at all to do the interview write up.

My interview with Brown was pretty bad. I came in dressed well. Khakis, formal shirt well shaven. I tried to make myself presentable since I thought that Brown's an Ivy and I should dress well. My interviewer comes in and has a beard not like a well maintained beard like the beard Brad Pitt had. His clothes are okay, but nothing that suits an interview. He starts asking me ten different question that are kinda unrelated to Brown, but I answer them as best as I can. He had a bit of a condescending voice to him, and was probing me about colleges and when I answered he had a bit of shock since he thought that I was an idiot. He wasn't that interested in my ECs more in Why Brown? and when I said diversity, open curriculum, etc. he was okay whatever. The most off putting thing about the interview was that he was cursing, yes cursing in an interview not at me, but I'm thinking this is an interview not some street meeting where I could care less. Overall, it was a pretty bad interview. Guy was elitist, rude and gave a bad presentation of Brown.

Simple, that sounds rough. That's the kind of thing that would really put me off in the application stages... I ended up not applying to Amherst (and pretty much no other LAC either) just because their information session/get-together/whatever was so mind-numbingly horrible and was against everything I'm looking for in a college.

I haven't personally met any Brown people the way you're describing him, though, so I'd consider him an outlier.

You know, you can, and should, (anonymously) report that kind of interviewer to Brown. They'd like to know about something like that.

my interviewer did ask my GPA. she also asked me how I would contribute to the diversity of Brown...I definitely froze up on that one.

My thought process: "Um...I'm a white Jewish girl from D.C...so....I won't?"

Haha that's a lousy thing to ask someone who's obviously white. ><

And on second thought, even for someone not white!

"Um... I'm Hispanic. Duh."
