Brown is my first choice; please, chance me!

I go to a small (170 students) public school. I’ve take 5 of 7 AP classes offered–one independent study AP class (euro, us hist, lit, stats, physics). Basically, I have taken the most challenging course load.

My activities are primarilly:
Editor-In-Chief of our school paper
Editor-In-Chief and Founder of school lit mag
Poetry Club Member
Multi-Cultural Student Union
NHS Member
Class Treasurer
Student Actions Committee
Library Student Actions committee
Relay for Life–Publicity Chair
Community Service Group–Secretary
French Club–Founder and Treasurer
Stage Crew–Manager

I also work at a convienience store on the weekends from 7-3. I used the money towards traveling—I last went on a trip to Europe with my savings.

Awards:
H. Bio Award
H. English I & III Awards
Rotary Club Youth Leadership Awards

SATS: 660 math 680 writ 690 read
lit 700 us his 690
top 10%
GPA (UNW) 3.9

I am female, white—but come from a diverse household (with parents of different religions in a small town). This upbringing has caused me to be deeply aware and fascinated by the human condition and cultures.

Major interests: English Lit, I.R., Philosophy, Anthropology

I hope to become a writer/journalist or work with the U.N (hopefully I will join the Peace Corps after college graduation).
Traveling, writing, art–are huge passions of mine. I also have written two novels (not published or anything awesome like that).

I know it is a stretch… especially the SATS. Any thoughts?!

6% to be exact** not that this means much hah.

if your novels are finished - publish them. even if it takes 100 tries to different publishers.

Well actually, my AP Lit teacher’s father is a writer–so I was talking to her and about getting his email and some advice on sending out my writing to publishers. It’s a long shot because it’ll end up in the “slush pile”-but who knows. It’s probably just as likely as me getting accepted into Brown… unfortunately haha.

You can always self-publish. There are many ways of doing that online, I think amazon.com has a self-publishing service.

Don’t do it just for college, though.

Thanks! That’s definitely something I’d consider.

But honestly, I’m just trying to get through the stress-fueled mayhem that is apply/waiting for college decisions–which you guys are probably similarly familiar with.

Yeah, the waiting game is terrible.

Good luck!

You as well!!

Any other people’s thoughts on predicted decision? as absurd a thing it is to predict

Please chance me
Hi, I am studying at Phillips Exeter Academy, NH. I am an international student with scholarship paying for all my undergrad school costs. (no financial aids needed)
My GPA is 9.4/11(unweighted)
My SAT score are CR 680 Math 780 WR 780
TOEFL 109
SAT II : MathLv.2 800 Physics 740 Chem 730

Will I get accepted ?

BROWNhopeful - it’s absurd enough to predict that I don’t think any current students bother. We honestly have no clue at all, and it’s not possible for you to provide close to the amount of information that the admissions officers will see when they read your file. Good luck, though!

mahadello, your college counselor would have a much better sense than a bunch of random people on the internet, especially since college admissions to Brown is based on so much more than just numbers. Even having seen your school profile (and so knowing where in your class you stand), I wouldn’t begin to hazard a guess, since admissions from prep schools are different than from many other schools (i.e. don’t worry about comments others may make about your GPA, since the scale and distribution is very different than at many other schools). Good luck!

BrownHopeful: someone gave you this advice “You can always self-publish.”

I would avoid this precisely because anyone with money can self-publish. Being self-published means that you were unable to find a real publisher willing to view your work positively.

That certainly is a lot of ECs. I hope you are passionate about all of them and not just packing your resume. And do not worry, people with low SAT scores are also admitted. I hope you wrote very good essays and best of luck!

About self-publishing, I agree–however, I’m not too concerned about getting published yet in general. There’s still so much I have to learn in my craft that I want to hone those skills foremost. I just want to learn.

And those extra circulars I am actually quite passionate about, some more than others of course. Except maybe being class treasurer… and some like poetry club or French club are just fun. Hopefully, it doesn’t come off as inauthentic.
