Has anyone who applied to Brown RD received a likely letter yet?

I’m not sure that Brown (or any similar school) send “likely” letters to RD applicants, except as they do otherwise, to students in the fall who they are trying to “encourage” to apply (translation “recruit”) such as certain athletes etc. These students could decide to apply RD instead of ED. But I’m not aware of them sending letters after the application deadline. If anyone knows differently, I’ll stand corrected.

The exist. Most top schools send them.

BrownAlum: Students have reported here on CC getting likely letters from Brown for the past 5-6 years. When admissions started doing it, it was partly an experiment to see whether matriculation rates increased for students who learned of their admission early.

OP: I think it’s too soon to get a likely letter. You might want to search the CC archives for confirmation, but I think likely letters more typically appear in March.

They exist. DD got one from Dartmouth yesterday.

I got one from Brown today ^ O ^

I got one today also. :)

^what exactly did it say, 3point14 and dazzie?

Was it a physical letter or an email?

It was a physical letter!

Dear ____
The Board of Admission recently completed its review of your application for admission to the Class of 2017. I am delighted to inform you that in recognition of your outstanding performance and potential–both inside and beyond the classroom-- the members of the Board have voted to confer on you a “likely” status.

Although our official offer of admission will not be made to you until the end of March, you can assume your likely status means you will be admitted to Brown if you maintain your current record of achievement … etcetc!

Likely letters may be on hold until admissions sees your final first semester grades, so don’t be disappointed if you don’t see any this month. My son received two of them in early March, just a few days apart, but his semester ended later than many and it took time for the high school’s paperwork to be shipped out – his counselor was actually emailed about the status of that transcript about 10 days before we received my son’s likely letter.

Are any of you guys from the Midwest? And when was your letter dated?

DiamondFlorence: By the nature of your questions, you seem to be hoping for a Likely Letter, a natural impulse. However, the very nature of Likely Letters means that no one should logically expect one. To devote a single iota of worry/concern/longing for one is foolish. To those who get them, great. To the rest – it means nothing. The smallest of the small percentage of applicants get them. Most of the admitted students will not see one ever.

Who gets 'em? The creme de la creme – superstars who are likely getting multiple Likely Letters from most schools applied. Those whom multiple elite colleges are vying for. If this is you, great. If not, so what?

Plus, the fact you’ve gotten one from DMouth (congrats, BTW) does not say that you’ll definitely get one from Brown

DiamondFlorence: My letter was dated February 8, and I’m from the far west.

Do they do likely letters for plme?

I’ve never heard of a PLME likely letter happening.

I haven’t either. If they do, it would be later, as PLME committees meet later in the cycle for decisions (ie “folders” have to pass regular admit first).

Any likely letters for international students?

Heyy i’m an international student and I got one. Did you guys get a followup email from the dean as well?

Congratulations… What part of the world are you from?? :’)
