So I’m falling in love with Brown. :)

Actually, Brown seems to be my favorite school that I have researched and I have not heard one student say that they do not love Brown. I still have to apply to Yale ED though because of financial reasons… but I have a feeling that Brown would be better for me.

The only thing is… I HAVE HEARD NOTHING ABOUT MUSIC AT BROWN!! So, if anyone knows anything about Brown Music, please post here because I want to major in music compositions and eventually write film scores for movies.

Let me know,

Thanks!

First off, Brown does excellent on Financial Aid, I can give you specifics on my situation through email if you'd like, my email is jason_becker@brown.edu.

Music is great here. The actual degree is often more composition or musicology based (heck the Dean of the College is a well known musicology professor). We do offer performance classes as well as several ensembles. There are also a ton of small quartets and combos on campus who're often paid to play at campus events.

Also, the gentleman who scored I, Robot, the new version of The Omen, Flight of the Phoenix, etc among others is a Brown graduate. I met him last year when he spoke with my friends dad (the president of Fox Corp's music division who's in charge of everything you hear in ever Fox movie) and actually won three DVDs signed by the two of them, which was ironic, through a raffle.

Thanks for the info, that's so great to hear!

I'll email you back soon, it's been a busy day in lab.

d_rolla08,

My son is a music concentrator at Brown, a junior next year. Though the department is relatively small, the faculty are amazing, knowledgeable, helpful. I had worried that going to a larger school would mean less faculty involvement with students, but the size of the department has made it very possible for close interaction with this great group of teachers. The concentration is pretty demanding. And, as Modest has said, there are lots of groups to get into.
