Brown or Carnegie Mellon?

It all boils down to Mellon or Brown.

As of right now, I plan to do engineering or economics and eventually pursue an MBA. But nothing is set in stone and I really don't know what I'll end up doing. Brown's open curriculum means I'll be able to take classes in everything and figure out what I like but Mellon's computer science / engineering / business schools' ranks really can't be overlooked either.

Thanks.

Have you visited either? At this point it sounds like the only thing that can swing you one way or the other is visiting. I can't stress how important that is. Academics-wise there isn't a significant difference for the majors you're interested in, but you might love the atmosphere at one college and hate it at the other. You can't know that from statistics or a website.

Engineering: CMU
Econ: Brown has more of the name but CMU has the higher avg salary at 55k.
Double major: Definitely CMU. Econ + Engineering double = VERY MARKETABLE.

Yeah right. CMU >> Brown for engineering and business.

^ This is true based on avg salaries which are actual DATA. Don't let the Ivy name misguide you.

Funny. Brown was my son's (creative writer) first choice because of its "open" curriculum but he was rejected so he'll be at sleepover Sunday at CMU. Visit both for sure.
