Well, I’ve narrowed my choices down to these two schools, and now I’m really stuck. They both offer so much, but I just don’t know! Duke is ranked higher, but Brown is an IVY. My parents are really pushing for Brown, but I’m split. Any suggestions for how to make a decision if I can’t make it to either school to visit in the next couple weeks? Thanks!

You probably should be looking at fit rather than these measures.

How do you feel about the Open Curriculum? What would you do with it? How do Duke’s requirements look? There’s something to be said for a core or distribution requirements (not sure which Duke has) too, depending on what you want. What opportunities does each school offer you? What are the perceived differences between the two? Have you had the opportunity to e-mail professors in departments you’ve been looking at? What other factors are important to you? For me, placement in several departments played a role in my ultimate decision between the schools at which I was accepted. Have you ever visited either school?

I bet you could get a great academic experience at either school, but these two seem so different to me! My son didn’t apply to Duke after the visit (although personally I liked it a lot and it is a beautiful campus), but really likes Brown. If you can visit both, it would really help you make your decision.

“Duke is ranked higher, but Brown is an IVY.” — it depends.

[50 Top Colleges](http://50topcolleges.com/Rankings.html) - Many ppl use this web site to gauge which school is better. I like to use many objective measures from different sources. Hope it helps.

Ranked higher? By whom? And how does that even become relevant?
