You all take where you get your undergrad diploma way to seriously.

Deep breath, repeat after me -- the world does not revolve around an otherwise struggling magazines college rankings.

the only thing that image proves is that you suspiciously felt the need to authenticate your admission

Whatever. I still have that image from when, on a chances thread on this site, I posted that picture as an emphatic "I GOT IN." It's still in the archives if you poke around on the Brown board from last spring. In fact, I got the link from that old thread. Trust me, I would not have taken the picture to placate you; I couldn't care less.

I did get into Brown. I did stay at a hotel the college runs that sits on top of one of their dorms (someone who goes there can help me out with the name). I did walk down the stairs and meet some kids, and that was the expereince I had with them. Obviously, that wasn't the only thing that made my decision for me. Distance from home and my love for college football weighed in just as heavily.

yeah i know. He also got into Dartmouth ("why the hell would i go there"), and penn. He got a likely letter from Yale, but then retracted his application after he went to some informational alumni thing. (i think that was the dumbest thing ever)

funny thing is; rejected at NYU.

either way, he's as happy as can be where he is, and that's all that matters.

his reason for rejecting PLME but staying at Brown: "I don't know if I want to be here for 8 f"""ing years"

he went to ADOCH, got a REALLY good feeling about the school, and decided it was the only place he wanted to spend the next 4 years....(but not 8??!?)

Perhaps you should take a close look at what turns you off about the Brown application. I know from my son's experience that Brown required the use of their own app, and it does have some unique qualities, which I think reflect the school well. Might think in those terms before you make a decision.

How would you order your list so far?

Lawschool, your love for college football makes me smile. My son in fact did decide to go to Brown, and I warned him that he would probably be watching college football by himself. Yep, I got that one right! If you had gone, he might have had a buddy to watch FB with!

To be honest with you, I think I could have found my niche and have been happy there. When I considered everything, however, it wasn't where I wanted to be. I doubt I will ever forget hanging out with my friends before the Notre Dame football game, or watching the final drive when Penn State came to town (punctuated with a 15 yard TD catch to win the game with no time on the clock). 115 thousand fans went crazy right there and the town was glowing for the rest of the night. I always saw college as more of an experience than a means to an end (If I would have been given a shot at walking on to Brown's hockey team I would probably have gone there -- that would have been an experience, as well). I didn't fit in at Brown. At the end of the day, I can score 35's on my ACT and 800's on my SAT II's like my would-be Brown classmates, but I'm a college football fan and hockey player, not an ultra-liberal New England coffeehouse intellectual (I know, a caricature of campus, but that's the distinct impression I got).

The fact that some people are so preoccupied with ratings (some in utter amazement that I would even consider a non-ivy school that was gasp rated 6 spots lower in USNWR and not in the ancient eight) is just sad to me.

momofthree, my friends and I have gone to every home football game, and my roomie and I play college fantasy football, and my other friend and I watch duke games together, and are even going to one later in the season. In case it wasnt obvious, I go to Brown.
