Brown PLME Early Decision

ok guys i have 2 questions, first if u apply early for the PLME program but dont check the box for attending brown if u get into the regular college, does that decrease ur chances????

and second, should i retake my 690 chem, i can prolly pull it up to a 730 in oct but i dunno if its worth it and if it will even make a diff?

Yes, it can potentially hurt your chances for admission to regular Brown undergrad. There's actually a site for Brown alumni interviewers where it specifically mentions this. If a student is a PLME applicant, whether they'd be willing to go to Brown without PLME is an important indicator of their commitment to Brown. And obviously you can't get into PLME without first getting into Brown, so I would say it does hurts chances.

Quite frankly I think it's a bad decision to apply ED to Brown PLME...it doesn't seem to confer any advantage, you simply find out earlier whether you're accepted or not. Of course, PLME also defers many applicants.

It's not worth it to retake, if only for 40 points. SAT II's only go so far anyways.

yeah it will hurt your chances to not check the box

and the SAT probly IS worth the retake, yes, it's only 40 points, but schools use like 50 point brackets, and im pretty sure the brackets are as simple as like 700-740 750+, thus, a 730 vs. a 690 is a bracket up.

And yeah, what people are saying regarding the checking of the box makes sense. I mean think about the message you're sending the college, "I only wanna come if I'm guaranteed a spot in the medschool"

yup, it'll hurt your chances...I think there were some other threads on this same topic too, you might want to try and dig them up
