My D applied to several bsmd's including PLME@Brown. Reading the forum i understand Brown does not offer separate interviews for PLME. However, she has not heard about any alumni interview dates either ( location: Cal). Her friends in ED already had alumni interview for PLME and were either rejected or deferred. Any one knows why it's so late? Can she contact anyone in administration or keep waiting? I appreciate any advice. She had 2 other interviews so far -- no news. She's heading East right now, but snow is expected in Philly...

don’t worry about brown plme interview yet. everyone, no matter what stats they have, are offered an interview if available, and even if you don’t have an interview, it won’t reflect negatively on your application. you should probably wait a couple weeks or so (i only had my brown alumni interview two days ago)

Gee Thanks, I learnt a lot from your other threads too. The bsmd has gotton so competitive that one must apply to more than a dozen to be really sure–we applied to less than 10. Even the “less competitive” ones are getting impossible this year. The odds are against you unless you are all-rounded and have higher “achievements” than your pool. Good luck guys!

Any more info for PLME timeline for RA, anyone? I mean interview/follow-up offers or rejections/ modes of communication. Only thing i knew was a few years ago no news means bad news. The overwhelming applns have r’lly slow things down this year…

After the interview, the only thing you can do is wait until March 31st (or whatever day all the Ivies come out with their decisions).

Thxs. Brown ( ?PLME )has contacted D for alumni interview, but interviewer may not be a doctor. Is that usual or could it be wrong? All of the friends who applied PLME had physician interviews.

they shouldn’t have had physician interviews - either they lied, they don’t know what they’re talking about, or they got really lucky. alumni interviews have nothing to do with the program, since almost all alumni interviews are conducted by people who graduated from the undergraduate college, not the med school. there’s a chance someone graduated from both though. anyway, don’t worry if it’s not a doctor - mine was with a mathematician because i applied to brown undergrad for math but the PLME program because i eventually want to become a doctor

My son is a PLME and he had a regular alumni interview. Perhaps those kids got Brown confused with other programs where they interviewed with the actual med school.

say I haven’t gotten any interviews from any of the 10 programs Ive applied to except for UMKC and VCU… I shouldn’t even be thinking of the possibility for Brown PLME right? I dont know why I am… I guess I’m counting on my essays… In my opinion they were pretty strong and interesting… and most importantly showed my passion and motivation…

Don’t be disheartened, we all got rejections somewhere, just hang on to the ones you have got, or get to a good UG college and start again if you really wanna to be a doc.
Btw, d had interview. Any one knows the odds or appliacation/acceptance ratios to PLME in last few years ??( as interviews play a small part only ) All I know is it’s harder and harder and harder each year. umm…

interview with an alumni or for PLME?!

he means alumni.

ive heard several contrasting numbers for their applicant pool - 1000 and 2000…with 70 accepted

If you’re looking for PLME stats:

Also, just reiterating that there is not separate PLME interview or notification or anything like that. The interview, if you have one, is just an alumni interview. (If you want to know more about the interview, there’s a lovely post about it in the Brown forum. But yeah, it is not a significant part of admissions. Some people don’t even have one. )

So they accept PLME candidates without even interviewing them or seeing them… except for the alumni interview that they might of had??? isn’t that kinda risky for such a high caliber program?
its just hard to believe

can the alumni interview affect PLME? My interviewer was a physician who got rejected from PLME, but we spent most of the time talking about why I wanted to be a doctor…

Just because there is no PLME interview does not mean that they will not get to know you. The additional essays, your Brown application as a whole, etc. tell just about as much about you as any brief interview could.

(As for risk, I think all combined programs carry a significant risk with them. It seems like it would be difficult to predict accurately how a high school senior will do in college, let alone medical school. )

Edit: I have no claims of knowledge about the admissions process or interviews, but I would guess your interviewer will certainly mention your enthusiasm for medicine in their report. How much effect that has, I have no clue.

My alumni interviewer was a musician. Does anyone know when we hear about PLME? Also, if they don’t base it on your interview, does that mean that they base admission on the essays the most?

i’ve been amazed about how Brown can judge the plme pool with this seemingly loose selection process. I think they can afford to be “cocky” ( no MCAT, minimal requirement to stay afloat in program) cuz their posted average SAT ( mid- to high- 700s) of matriculants is high, and it’s an Ivy. This stats is comparable to only HPME NW. However, the PLME is liberal in UG years, but is it that good?? In ranking Brown med school is same as BUSM, but definitely lower than NW.Another very tough one.

well, my HPME interviewer now a MD said that PLME doesn’t prepare students enough… but he would of course favor HPME

azn, who was ur interviewer? other than green and the M4
