According to their website, ALL matriculants were among the top one percent of their high school class. Does that mean I shouldn’t even consider applying to this program? (I’m among the top 5-10% of my class currently.)

I’m pretty sure that’s not true… Apply anyway!

That’s most definitely not true. I will be starting the PLME program in the fall and I was in the top 5% of my class, not the top 1%.

oh wow that’s a relief!
but check this out
[Brown Program in Liberal Medical Education](http://bms.brown.edu/plme/Admissions_At_A_Glance.html)

ri1391 could you post ur stats ^-^;; PLEASE

nvm i found ur stats lol

hmm it seems that if you were rejected PLME, then you couldnt get into Brown CAS or whatever?

Wow, I just checked that page out. Weird.
Haha, well guess they chose to ignore me since it is for my class
Could it be the average matriculant…?

I was in the top 5% and I still got in; your GPA is what actually matters. I don’t really think rank is considered in the admission process; it exists mostly as a statistics schools can use to summarize the gpa range of their accepted students

Well not all school report ranking so…

My school actually doesn’t rank, but I’ve heard that Brown (and all other Ivy Leagues) favor students who report their ranks over those who DON’T. In other words, students who don’t report their ranks are looked down upon by the admission officers.

Any ideas?

I might be the top 5% but I got a C+ in Chem in 10th so I think they will look down on that!

[This is in response to Korean_dreamer’s comment.]

“Looked down upon”? That’s hardly true. Take a look at the statistics for the incoming class…[Brown Admission: Facts & Figures](<a href=“Undergraduate Admission | Brown University”>Undergraduate Admission | Brown University)

More students are coming from high schools that do not ranked than those that do. On top of that, most of their applicants are students who come from schools that don’t provide a class rank! I suspect you are fine.

well I just got a brochure in the mail for them and it did not say anything about the top 1% thing, and the stat on the website that they accept 55 students every year is different from the brochure.
On the brochure it says that they accept 50 kids and online it says 55, I guess I am just being picky…

It wouldn’t make sense for BROWN to look down on people who don’t rank: Brown itself, unlike most other schools, doesn’t rank, or even calculate GPAs…

According to the statistics from that website, it’s better to report your rank if you’re in top 10% than not to. Check out the website.

That would be totally unfair if they look down upon it. It would be like discrimination against people who go to school that don’t rank.

Yes they will, your grades are way more important than ranking.
