I have been fortunate enough to be admitted to both of these schools and the former's med program. I am in a dilemma however. Yale has been my dream school for a long time as has becoming a doctor. I also want to enjoy my undergrad experience and not have the "typical" premed "torture." I feel like Brown would let me do this through their PLME program but I don't just want to sacrifice Yale. I also want to go into something involving business so I was thinking of going into healthcare management. Is being a premed at Yale really tough? Should I go for PLME?

If you want to be a doctor - Brown. IF the business side is more attractive - Yale. If you can't decide - Brown(as PLME offers a bigger advantage on the doctor end than Yale on the management end). Either way you are in at med school, providing you put in the work. The diffrence is that with PLME it is a great med school, when you will just be 'guarunteed' any old med school from Yale.

Go to Brown! My friend is in the PLME program and he absolutely loves it - says they have amazing advisors and so many unique opportunities to choose from. Applying to med school is difficult and stressful, so knowing that you're already into an amazing med school is definitely worth it!

If you are positive you want to go to medical school, Brown hands-down. You can't beat guarenteed admission to medical school. Also (correct me if I'm wrong) but you can still apply to other medical schools if you are in the PLME program, so you can apply to Yale med after Brown if you really wanted to.

If becoming a doctor has been your dream, I would say go to Brown PLME. Though going to Yale has also been your dream, I think if you know you want to become a doctor for sure Brown PLME is the better choice. Just my opinion. Good luck!

well "yale is yale" is the worst reason ive heard. if you want to be a doctor take PLME NO DOUBT. at brown you can choose any class which is very nice. but for a pre-med perspective, let me advise you against yale. sure its prestigious, (and what, brown isnt? oh come on) but you have to remember that a good chunk of the kids at yale are fighting for those top GPAs so that they can get into harvard law or wharton business school. brown is much more laid back, not cut throat like the yalies. you cant beat guaranteed admission into med school

i would not worry about getting into med school as much; if you can get into Brown and Yale for undergrad, i would be terribly shocked if you didn't get into medical school. Also keep in mind that 96% of premeds at Yale get into medical school.

Go to the school that you will enjoy the most; don't let medical school dictate where you spend your undergrad. Plus, do you really want to stay in the same place for 8 years?

I have many reservations about straight medical programs. From many such students I know that have gone through Northwestern's HPME, they say that they were not nearly prepared for medical school as much as their peers. A free ticket to med school may not be the best thing for you. The extra work you do (such as preparing for and taking the MCAT, which is not required if you do go to PLME) going the regular route may be more valuable.

plme sounds great, but guaranteed med school should only be a factor if you are ABSOLUTELY sure you want to practice medicine. if you want to be a doctor, you willl find your way there, if you go to brown, yale, where ever- you are clearly a great student. medicine is a big decision to make at 17 or 18 though....there are a million careers out there even in the health field that don't require an md, let alone in other sectors. if there is a chance you'll change your mind, don't do plme unless you love brown undergrad. even the factor of being in one city for eight years is one to consider...and if you think, well, i can apply to other med schools....then you'll need those mcats and the high gpa you would need at yale anyway. go where you want to go for undergrad. the plme is not right for the vast majority of future doctors for a lot of reasons. it is really only right for the ones who know they want brown for college, first and foremost.

milk---brown's focus is on its undergrads, and the OP was asking about Brown PLME or Yale for his/her undergraduate education. The rankings you are referring to are for graduate schools. Brown PLME and Yale would both be excellent choices for an undergraduate education in medicine, but the Brown PLME is very focused on it, which is why I would recommend choosing Brown, which has one of the highest rates of acceptance to medical school after its undergraduate education.
