Brown Residential College

<p>Hi!
I'm a transfer student and will be attending UVa in August (class of '13)!
I was recently offered housing in Brown Residential College as well as a single in Johnson.
I don't know anyone who's ever lived at Brown, so I was hoping that someone who has lived there can help me.
What's the difference between A1 and A2, as far as room assignments go?
Also, how exactly are the rooms set up? I know they are singles but adjoining rooms. How does this work?
I'm just nervous and what to know a little more about the rooms themselves before I accept the housing offer.
Thanks so much in advance.
All feedback and responses are greatly appreciated!!</p>

<p>There are two rooms set up in sort of a suite style. The door opens into one of the bedrooms, and there is another door between the two rooms. The other bedroom has the door to the bathroom. It’s technically a single, but you still have to go through your roommate’s room to get to either the door or the bathroom. And I’ve never lived in Brown, but if I’m not mistaken there’s at least one other set of two singles that also share your bathroom.</p>

<p>Other than that, the rooms are fine. Smallish, but not terrible. I didn’t apply simply because I need a little more privacy, but my roommate lived in Brown last year and didn’t have many complaints. We have an apartment now though, so take that as you will. </p>

<p>Sorry I can’t really help with the JMW rooms, I don’t really know much about them.</p>

I can also PM you pictures of my room
Brown rooms are significantly larger than other dorms on grounds, except maybe some of those giant Copeley rooms.
I always considered it a double with a door in between to make it a pseudo single when needed.
A1 is the outside and A2 is the inside. You can negotiate this with your roommate. I lived in both outside and inside. I have made quite a few posts on the benefits of each – here is search results [url=&lt;a href=“Google”&gt;Google]Google[/url</a>]
I LOVED living in Brown and if you have any questions please post them here if they are general (so other ppl can read the answers) or PM me, and I will answer.</p>

<p>Brishe and hazelorb pretty much covered your question about the rooms setup, but I’m just going to echo Hazel’s statement that Brown is a fantastic community and a great place to live at UVA :-)</p>

<p>Thank you everyone!
I really appreciate your help!
I’ve never been to University before, so this is a completely new experience for me.
I want privacy, of course, but Brown just sounded so fantastic (and it still does)!
I’m just weighing out my options…</p>

<p>My son lived in Brown last year and will do so again this coming year. He’s loved it. The location is unbeatable if you’re in Arts and Sciences or Engineering, and the rooms are very nice for dorm-style accommodation. His had a big, openable window, a nonworking fireplace, high ceilings, and air-conditioning; I believe all of this is standard. He is not a fan of institutional food so has liked the fact that he can cook some of his meals in Brown College’s kitchen.</p>

<p>Students really vary, he says, in how much they get involved in the Brown community and its special activities–but that’s also available, if it interests you. It’s been a big plus for my son.</p>

<p>Thank you so much for the information about the room!
I’ve been offered a room with a fireplace, as well.
I’m only a little iffy about the layout of the rooms, what with having to go into my roommates room to use the bathroom, but I think it will be great, overall.
Thank you so much!</p>

<p>Again, think of it more as a double room with a door in the middle when needed.</p>
