Brown revoking admission

hey guys

out of curiosity, has anyone heard of Brown revoking a student’s admission due to changes in ones personal record, not ones academic record?

Yes, last year a student behaved extremely irresponsibly during ADOCH and had his admission revoked.

wow thats harsh. that would be the worst thing in the world!

Could you elaborate on “behaved extremely irresponsibly”?

I’m not sure of all the details, but I believe there was sexual harassment involved.

^ Yes, there was.

The university wasn’t really being “harsh”; the kid deserved to get revoked.

What about for academic reasons? How much do you think your grades have to drop for them to revoke your acceptance… Especially ED considering you would be pretty much screwed.

In such a case, you would be screwing yourself, no one would be doing it to you. If you were a good enough candidate to be accepted ED to Brown (or anywhere, really), then you are good enough and clever enough not to allow your grades to drop to such a depth that you might have your acceptance rescinded. Don’t let that happen. Don’t be a jerk.

Hey I’m really worried about my grades and I would love some advice.

I was recently accepted into brown with straight A’s, but for second semester all my classes have become extremely difficult. I might even end up with 2A’s and 5B’s and I’m just really scared they will rescind my acceptance. Could anyone let me know how much of an impact these grades are going to have? Thank you so much.

I don’t think some B’s are putting you in danger of having your acceptance rescinded. I think it’d a problem if you were suddenly facing the prospect of multiple D’s, but for most of the world, a B is really not a bad grade.

Going down to Bs is not likely to trigger any problems. If you had incompletes, a lot of Cs and Ds etc might be an issue. If lower grades B, Cs, I guess they could put you into some form of academic " watch". I don’t recollect if Brown actually does this but many colleges have a form of academic probation, that they can instate even for first semester freshmen. It is to make you shape up, and at the same time in some schools means people will try to make sure you get help. The only form of this “remedial” start I know of at Brown is a required writing class if there are concerns with written English, paper writing skills.

Bs are totally fine. I got in ED and my grades definitely dropped second semester, but even my first B- ever in my life didn’t get me rescinded :)

I was told in high school not to worry at all about up to a full letter drop. I wouldn’t test the waters on going over a letter and a half. In your case, anything above the C range will be fine.

As long as you maintain a 3.0 you’ll be fine.

I know someone who was accepted ED, got 2 C’s spring semester and had his offer rescinded.

what about revoking based on slacking extracurricular commitments? e.g., not paying science honor society dues

I think something like that is fine. I imagine if you quit every team/club you were a member of that would be bad (and rude to the other members).

So what did this student do last year that was so egregious as to get his offer rescinded?

^I don’t wanna go into details, but it involved a lot of whip cream, a slinky, and a pony.
