Hi guys, I’m currently a junior in high school, and I’m interested in the Brown-RISD dual enrollment program, but I’d like to know a little more about it.

Would admission officers lessen the concentration on grades if you apply to the dual degree program?
Is there a box that you check off if you’re applying to the dual enrollment program, or does each school look at your application completely separate of each other?
Can you declare a major in art when you’re applying to Brown?
(And this is a little silly, but could anyone who got in briefly list stats? I (oh my gosh) want so badly to get into the program, but I’m afraid my stats aren’t good enough :P)

I can answer some, but not all of your questions.

Grades: I doubt they would put less emphasis on grades. You still need to be a competitive student for Brown.

As far as I’ve heard, each school looks at your application separately, and if they both choose to accept you, then your dual-degree essays get looked at. I have a friend who was accepted to both RISD and Brown, but rejected from the dual-degree program. He chose Brown instead.

Art: you probably could concentrate in art at Brown, but it wouldn’t make much sense as Brown’s art program is less strong than RISD’s. I know dual-degree students concentrating in English, Literary Arts, Music, and History of Art/Architecture, among other things.

normally I would agree, but if you’re doing the combined RISD-Brown program, the visual arts degree at Brown is definitely weak compared to the training you’re getting at RISD.

I agree with Iwannabe_Brown; the visual arts degree at Brown is great, but if you’re already studying art at RISD, I would study something else at Brown because it just can’t compare to the RISD art program.

How are you liking the program? Do you agree with what other people say that you don’t tend to get the best of both universities and actually feel shortchanged? How did you cope the first year in RISD, then moving and starting all over again in Brown on your 2nd year?
My son is an international student and was accepted into the program. He is supposed to start Sept 2016.
