Brown RUE 2018

Okay. I never saw that. I don’t see anywhere where he/she is talking about the RUE program though. It makes sense for transfer, but for the RUE program I still think you need to be interviewed.

I’m not trying to argue, I am just trying to find an answer to whether or not you have to have an interview for the RUE program specifically.

Alright, I’m checking previous years’ threads - in 2016, someone said Brown requested more information from them a week before it was may 4th. Another commenter noticed that the check list was no longer accessible on the fourth.
Someone who was interviewed was told the decisions would be made around May 10.
Another person mentioned ‘requesting’ but not getting an interview.
“While its a good opportunity to make your case, I honestly don’t think having an interview means you are better off. Interviews can also be used to select among applicants that are equally qualified for the few remaining slots so not having an interview can be a good sign as well. Just depends on how you look at it.”
Someone received a rejection letter on May 9th. It appears rejection letters come in the mail.
Transfer results were out on the 10th, this person got in.
Someone called the admissions office and found out they got in on the 10th.
Someone claims an email means you got in and a letter in the mail means you didn’t.

That’s probably the most detailed information we’re going to get, unfortunately.

I don’t know whether this happens every year, but you do have to keep in mind the applications opened an entire month late this year. Hopefully that doesn’t affect anything, but…

Thanks @misamelee for your help and researching previous threads. I guess we just have to wait and see what happens.

@IndirectProofs,
I’m not trying to argue either :), just saying that every year is the same as I can see from the previous RUE applicants, for example, this is from 2014. (RUE):

"I feel extremely humbled reading all the backgrounds yall have posted here. I don’t feel nearly as qualified. I did get accepted, but I only mention this to say that it was through the mail. I also did not get a phone interview, but I was reading past threads here and saw that many other people in past years have. Did any of you all have a phone interview for the RUE program?

Debris, your background especially is extremely interesting. I was really hoping when I scrolled through this thread that I’d see you were accepted. However you mentioned Columbia was your first choice, so I hope that works out for you! What types of films were you making?

Good luck to everyone in their decisions. "

I did some research, trying to find out as much as I can and the answer is always the same; not/or having an interview doesn’t mean anything.

Thank you @Galjinocka. That does seem like you are correct.

After reading through a lot of the past threads, I’ve realized that this program is probably a lot harder to get into that I originally thought. I’m kind of realizing now that the chances are really low. I’m trying to stay positive though.

In 2013 (please keep in mind I am drawing PURELY from memory here) they got the funding to put ten people into this program for ten years, and that’s not counting contributions made since then. It is difficult, for sure. I wish I knew how many people applied this year so I knew how difficult. But based on applications from previous years it’s likely they’ll let in between 4-12 people, and around 100 people applied. It’s… a longshot, to say the least. If your essays were good and you have a strong application over all, that’s really all it’s useful to be concerned about. And even all of that- we can’t change anything anymore, so it’s just time to sit on our hands.

@IndirectProofs , you are welcome! :slight_smile:
Just try to stay positive! I’m international and probably the oldest applicant ever. My chances are zero to none and this is my only chance at the same time, and I’ve applied only for the RUE. You are going to be just fine I’m sure!
@misamelee, you are correct! http://www.browndailyherald.com/2017/04/03/anonymous-financial-aid-gift-expands-rue-program/

I heard back and he said that it is completely possible to be accepted without an interview. He also said that invitations for phone interviews will go out next week. :slight_smile:

He also said they haven’t offered any interviews yet, but maybe he meant for non veterans. I think that’s what he meant seeing as though all vets get interviews.

@Galjinocka I’m old too. I’m 34. That’s not even old, but compared to others I feel ancient.

That’s great, now we have official confirmation, thank you @IndirectProofs! :slight_smile:

@IndirectProofs , you are very young and still can do with your life whatever you want. I’m much older believe me!

Well, I hope the program sees me that way :slight_smile: It is so good to know that more interview invitations are going to go out next week!

I’m not sure but I think as long as you can upload your documents, they didn’t even reach your app and read all materials.

In that case I better hurry, I have a very important update letter to write :slight_smile:

I wonder that too. I just uploaded an update letter, and I’m not sure if they are alerted if you upload something.

Has anyone received an invite for an interview yet? I know last week it was mentioned tha non-military invites would be going out this week. I personally have not heard anything.

So far, no contact for interview. The week is still young though.
