Hi everyone! So I’m a Junior in high school and Brown University is my dream school and has been for a long time. I recently took the December SAT and got a 1510 (760 CR 750 M) and I’m not sure if its worth taking the test a second time since that was my first sitting. Does anybody have any advice? Should I keep that score and apply ED to Brown in the fall, or should I aim a little higher since I’ve only taken it once?
I’d take it again since it was only your first try.
Although your score is definitely competitive for Brown, I would take it again as this was only your first try. Just make sure to spend time on the extracurriculars you like instead of obsessing over tests !!!
An increase of a couple points shouldn’t matter too much.
Keep in mind that SAT score does NOT matter as much as you think it does! It matters that you show Brown that you will be a good fit on campus and that you will benefit from their programs/open curriculum. I’d say you should start focusing on your common app essay and your supplementals.
MODERATOR’S NOTE: Please stay on-topic and give advice that will help this student.
I would not retake a 1510. The hours required to improve that score would be much more valuable in terms of increasing your chances of acceptance spent doing something else.
Agree with IWBB. 760/750 is plenty good. Now, the savvy kids will tune in to what “rest” the tippy tops look for, how you match beyond scores. Invest in learning what this is, how to best present yourself, think on that level.
I don’t know if you have taken Act already but if not try taking the Act. My dd 1390 on Sat and then took Act and got a 35. Huge difference.
You’re fine.
I agree with the advice to take the ACT. I had a score similar to you on the SAT after my first try, so I took the ACT a few weeks afterward with some studying when I had the time. It helped so much. The ACT to SAT conversion showed a 50 point difference, and it was not too much work. It would not be worth it if you are too stressed when taking a test though because more stress is not necessary when applying to college.
I would take a couple of SAT2s to supplement that score
