I have heard that Sats at Brown are really not that important in the admissions process. (even college board lists it as only a “considered” factor for admission.) Having said this, is it possible for a person w/ relatively low Sats( i.e. 1300 and below) but with a good amount of APs, good extracurriculars, and coming from a competitive high school to be admitted to Brown? Thanks for your help.

Possible but unlikely.

i don't see why not, i'm pretty sure that's how i got in since my SAT scores were def not that amazing lol....i like to think that Brown can see pass numbers on standardized tests, and also realize that some people aren't test takers

Listen, if my best friend got into Princeton with a 1300, you can get into Brown. One must, however, give the admission office ample reason to accept you.

Here's some info with GPA, SATS etc and who got accepted and enrolled into Brown. http://www.brown.edu/Administration/Admission/gettoknowus/factsandfigures.html

man, play it safe. go for the 2400. If you try hard enough, you'll slip a little from your goal score and you'll come out as a 2300.

And dont tell me that its impossible to raise your score because I definitely did it. I really cant wait till March 12 to prove myself.

8th Grade: 960 (550M, 410V)
10th Grade: 1260 (680M, 580V)
11th Grade Practice Tests: 2200 (800M, 700ishV, 700ishW)

Just try hard enough. It's a factor in admission and its viewed heavily in other schools. It's something you can change, while a GPA (alas my gpa) is not.

I did RD so I dunno about my decision, but my scores:
6th grade: 1000
10th grade: 1530
11th grade: 1540
I did a very minimal amount of studying for the 11th grade one, and didn't study at all for the first two. Minimal=took one practice test. I think that if you just don't freak out about it, and know a little bit about etymology, then you're fine.
SAT IIs on the other hand.....suck

I took mine fresh and senior year... still wonder why improvement was so minimal. I got an 1100 fresh year but as a senior I could only get up to 1270. Thought there'd be a larger improvement.

prep definitely helps. i was strong on the verbal section, but math i was getting mid 600's first time i took it. i took a few practice tests and got 750 on the actual one. just familiarizing yourself with the test helps quite a bit.

we have to keep in mind that the SATs are just a factor...if you have a 1600 but a relatively weak number of APs and EC's, then you're worse off than someone with a 1300 but took every AP possible and has a number of national awards.
