Has anyone ever participated in the Online Brown Summer Pre-College Programs?
I am planning on enrolling in the 4-week long Anatomy, Physiology, and Disease course, but I would like to hear some comments or perhaps recommendations from past students.
The deadline is tomorrow...so it is critical for me to be informed of any negative experiences with this program before I apply.
Thank you in advance!

I also contacted the enrollment advisor in regards to any final examinations they administer upon completing the course, which I will be unable to take(the test) because I am located literally on the other side of the nation. Travelling from California to Rhode Island is definitely NOT a feasible requirement to fulfill.

Any feedback will be appreciated.
Thank you.

Brown is pretty well known for using these sorts of programs to make millions over the summer.

Are all pre college online courses used to make money?
Stanford’s online program seems quite legitimate, with 11 essay responses and at least 2 teacher recommendations, but the deadline passed T_T

If you want to pay for it, you’ll learn something.

IMO, any summer program that’s not free or doesn’t pay you is not worth spending the time applying to–except as a backup.

I would save your money and do something local that will cost less, and might actually give you credit. While the credit may not necessarily be transferable, this will give you more of a college experience, particularly if you can attend classes, and taking that effort will prob look better for applying to colleges. (Esp if you do very well, meet the prof if a good one who might write a college rec for you, etc. ) Also if you feel you might be a bit weak in an area starting at one of your “reach” schools, (say math, or maybe you want to delve more into a language etc) then you will have prepared yourself a bit more for the rigor of that class, even if you are essentially repeating it at a faster and more advanced level once you are “really” in college.

I considered applying to community colleges this summer, but the extreme state budget cuts this year caused most courses to be given to undergraduate students, graduate, or 12 graders.

After three days of endless bay area research, I finally narrowed my volunteer options to a free health clinic and a small hospital located in an underrepresented/impoverished neighborhood.

Thank you all for advising me against Brown online pre-college.

Next year I will definitely go ahead to apply for stanford online courses(and not hesitate to request those teacher recommendations!)
