Who has been? Is it hard to get accepted? Did you enjoy your stay?

They accept nearly everyone. It's really not difficult to get into.

I spent two summers there, 7 weeks each summer. I'm only 17, but both were the highlights of my life to this point. If you have any specific questions, I'd be more than happy to answer them for you.

thank you. I totally do have a lot of questions and i'll be sure to post them up when i have the thoughts all organized :) thanks. Oh, should i apply as early as possible?
Applications are avaliable decemeber 1st I believe...
And also, I had bad grades my freshman year, should I submit and essay explaining why?

I spent the summer at Brown after my junior year of high school, and it was definitely one of the best summers of my life. It also became one of the many reasons I applied early to Brown. Many of the great friends I made there came to Brown with me and others disseminated to other ivies so I had people to visit for four years when I traveled to the other schools.

wow that's awesome. Great to hear :) I've been seriously considering applying for the summer, however i'm not sure about applying there for college.

Apply whenever you want. My first year, I applied two weeks before it started.

I am hoping to be accepted to my state Governor's School which is paid for and lasts the entire month of July, and that would take priority over going to another summer program. But I could fit a week-long thing in, and one of the Brown ones fits in with my summer schedule.

Is it worth it to go for just one week? Did anyone do this and, if so, what did you go for?

I did a Brown one-week program and absolutely loved it. Just like everyone else has said, it has been one of the best summer things I have done. You have so much fun and the people you meet are amazing. Brown gives you so much freedom so you really get to see what being a "real" college student is like. I took a class that was called "So You Think You Want to be a Lawyer?" It was all about the different types of law, law school admissions, and what not. The class itself was not hard (it was only a week long) but the whole experience was what made it all worth it. I would encourage anyone who can to do it!

What does the application to brown summer school require? Is there an essay the applicant has to write, how many recommendations and by whom (meaning what teachers/counselors) do u they have to be written?

There's an optional essay (don't worry about doing it). I think there's one teacher recommendation required.

Also, I spent 7 weeks there each summer and they flew by. I can't imagine just going for a week. If you can do the 7 week program, do it!! You're in real college classes with Brown professors and Brown students. It's really an amazing experience.

I would assume its beneficial though to do the essay? Basically, i want to explain why I had bad grades freshman year and why I want to attend Brown

I promise you - you have to try very hard to be rejected from the program. My roommate last summer was a B-/C+ student. Admission to the summer program is nothing like admission to the college. You can write the essay, but they accept virtually anyone who wants to pay the tuition.

That's encouraging. However I received a D in a math course my freshman year which I subsequently retook in summer school (and received an A)....

You redeemed yourself and it happened during your freshman year. That's going to be more than fine.

The hardest (and most fun) part of applying choosing what courses you want to apply for.

Wow well thanks. I'm going to apply. Wish me luck with that. Are you applying this summer as well ?

Nope, I'm a senior this year who's applying to Brown RD. It's not my first choice, but I have wonderful memories of my summers and would be a very happy student there. My best friends are people that I still keep in touch with from my summers at Brown.

well i wish u the best of luck with that :)
