<p>I am a bit confused about the difference between two questions on the Brown supplement. </p>
<p>One question asks: “Why are you drawn to the area of study that is you indicated?” Later, </p>
<p>Then later:</p>
<p>Many applicants to college are unsure about eventual majors. What factors led you to your interest?</p>
<p>What concept in your anticipated major were you most proud of mastering?</p>
<p>It seems like these questions overlap. Am I missing something?</p>
<p>Often questions may overlap to delve a bit more into areas. Also questions that are for specific programs (engineering, PLME) will be focused on that area, and want to make sure you have thought out this proposed path, and want specific answers. Just answer as well and specifically as you can, but it is true that many students are undecided and that is okay too. Brown is about exploration.</p>
<p>Also, one could be more general than the other. It’s all about how you take it, but the first one could be about why you like math while the second one is about why you want to do applied-math econ, or the first one is about science and the second is about marine bio, etc.</p>
<p>This has come up before - other students have asked the same question. In my opinion, Brown has messed up asking two questions that are so similar. Look at it as an opportunity to further expand on the topic – you’ve been granted more space, take advantage of it.</p>
