I’m currently a junior thinking a lot about Brown, so I decided to work on some of the supplement essays that haven’t changed much over the years. I feel pretty good about the “drawn to areas of study” one, but for the “Why Brown?” essay, I overshot the word limit by about 50 words. Do the Common App supplement essaysand all other essays, for that matterhave flexible word limits? In other words, if I try to type a 250 word essay into a 200 word box, will the last 50 words get completely cut off?

They don’t get completely cut off, but Common App won’t allow you to send it off that way. It’ll say something like “Writing Supplement not complete” even though in your case it very well would be complete. :)

So you will still be able to TYPE over the word limit, but you just can’t submit it.

Best of luck with Brown; it’s good that you’re thinking about things early-on!
