Brown Supplement

Not sure if this is the right section of the college confidential forums, but I'm just starting (and hoping finishing in the next week) my Brown University Supplement on the Common Application. Aside from the fact this is later than the ideal time to do so, I have very recently finished various other university applications (I'm English, I just sent off my English university applications) and my SATs.

Anyway, questions are such as - "Why are you drawn to the area(s) of study you indicated?" (300 characters), as I'm an international applicant I'm not sure how to approach this. I indicated economics and psychology, two major interests of mine of course, but how exactly do I approach this?

Is this a sort of 'essay' question where I express my personal interest, using a very personal experience as my muse? Or do I simply say it interests me and leave it at that?

I realise this isn't making much sense.

I am also applying to Brown and just finished the supplement. Still need some editing to do, so you and I are in the same boat as far as not meeting self-met deadlines.

However, I would take every opportunity to let your personality shine. Explain WHY - go into your personal experience, your muse, your inspiration. Think of it this way: you already listed what you want to study on the supplement and even selected to which level you are interested (very committed, open to other options, etc.), so here’s your chance to let the admissions group look at you and say, “Hey, this guy/girl is really interested in Economics and Psych because they fell in love with their first Econ course and wants to study abroad in Asia” or something.

I wrote about Economics as well :)
