Does anybody know when will Brown Supplement be out? It is mid-Aug already. Nearly all other colleges have their supplements available already!

yea i have the same question...any experts on this subject?

I know! I want to know what's on it! They could at least have a PDF on their site before getting it on the commonapp, or post the essay prompts in case they've changed in past years. I've heard from other people that they're usually late in the game, and the admit officer at the info session round spring break said not to freak out if stuff wasn't posted until october (eek).

Any news is appreciated, in other words!

Their website says it will be out in mid-August.

Lol..it is already mid-August. The Brown website does not even have past application forms..=.=

Hi, these are last year's essay prompts:

Question #1:
Tell us about the academic areas which interest you most and your reasons for applying to Brown.

Question #2:
Who interested you in Brown (e.g., college counselor, Brown alumnus/a, admission officer, undergraduate, relative)?

Question #3:
In reading your application, we want to get to know you as well as we can. We ask that you use this opportunity to tell us something more about yourself that would help us toward a sense of who you are, how you think, and what issues and ideas interest you most.

If you want to major in chemistry, engineering, physics or CS then:

Question #4: Many applicants to college are unsure about eventual majors. What factors led you to an interest in the field of science you have selected above?

Question #5: What experiences, beyond school work, have broadened your interest in this particular field of science (these might include science fair projects, summer jobs, reading, etc.).

Question #6A:Chemistry, Computer Science, or Physics:
1. What concept in your anticipated major were you most proud of mastering?
2. Briefly describe the course (or courses) you have taken up to the present in your chosen field of science. If possible, please include the title of the textbook and a short syllabus.

Question #6B: Engineering
Brown offers programs in Biomedical, Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electrical, Materials and Mechanical Engineering. Because there is a common core curriculum within Engineering, students need not select a specific area until their junior year. We are curious, however, as to whether any particular program within Engineering presently appeals to you. Please discuss that choice if you have one.

You will need to answer question 6a or 6b depending on your major.

Now, I have no idea if they are going to use these prompts again, so it's better to wait a bit longer for the official 2009 supplement.

^^^ In this year's application, question #3 will no longer exist. Instead, the prompt asks for you to discuss a book, person, etc, etc that has really inspired you and how. This is a 500 word essay (read: long essay). The first two prompts are still on the application and are both short essays. Note on the first short essay, they also want to know WHY BROWN. Do not forget to answer that in your essay. It is more important than the academic areas discussion. Good luck.

I went to an information session/tour at Brown last week and they said they're trying to get it out by August 18th.

ok..then we shall just happily wait for Brown ^_^

supposedly it was online for a bit yesterday on the common app website, but now when you click the link for the supplement it routes you back to the brown admissions page. i'll probably be up again sometime in the next few days.

You have to sign up on the Common Application website and add Brown to your college list in order to see the supplement.

^ thanks for the tip. youre right. i just spent all morning looking for it on their website. this mightve gone on forever! i cant believe they havent posted it to their own site. the questions are
-Tell us about the academic areas that interest you most and your reasons for applying to Brown. (1600 characters)
-How did you become interested in Brown, e.g., college counselor, undergraduate, relative, web site? (900 characters)
-What is an academic experience, project, class or book that has influenced or inspired you?
Please limit your response to 500 words or less and avoid repeating your essay for the Common Application.
-This essay is optional.
We are confident that the information you have submitted through the Common Application and our Brown Supplement will give us a full picture of who you are. However, if there is something we have not asked that you feel is specific to your candidacy at Brown, you may address that here. Please be judicious, and limit what you write to a paragraph or less.

plme-
1. Most high school seniors are unsure about eventual career choices. What experiences have led you to consider medicine as your future profession? Please describe specifically why you have chosen to apply to the Program in Liberal Medical Education in pursuit of your career in medicine. Also, be sure to indicate your rationale on how the PLME is a 'good fit' for your personal, academic and future professional goals.
2. Since the Program in Liberal Medical Education espouses a broad-based liberal education, please describe your fields of interest in both the sciences and the liberal arts. Be specific about what courses and aspects of the program will be woven into a potential educational plan

-Chemistry/Computer Science/Geology/Physics
To be completed by applicants whose primary interest is one of the following areas of study; please address each question separately. We also suggest limiting your total response to 500 words.

3. What concept in your field of interest were you most proud of mastering?
4. Briefly describe the course(s) you have taken relating to your chosen field of science.

good luck! : ) psersonally, i know i'll need it!

OH MY GOD IT'S UP!!!

is freaking out

I really really wanted this to be a question (I wrote an essay in response to it a month ago! :(), but NOOOO, they replaced it. Apparently class of '09 is supposed to be influenced and inspired?! PSHAW.

Poseur: You should be able to use that essay for the common ap, can't you?

For the optional paragraph or so, what exactly can we or "should" we write about?

Do some people actually leave that blank?

I get the feeling that it's only for stuff that didnt fit anywhere else on the app. ie: I can speak seven languages and I lived in mongolia from when I was born until I was nine. I don't think it's for an extra essay. And since this is the first year they're doing commonapp, there aren't years past to compare to as for people leaving it blank.

How can the essays be 1600, 900, and 500 characters?
Wouldnt that amount to roughly 12 pgs? 12 pgs x 20,000 applicants...

Characters? No way. Words? Yes. My 560 word essay is around 1500 characters.

O haha I guess i misunderstood
