How did I find out about Brown? What on earth does that mean? I’ve known about the eight Ivy League schools since I came out of the womb. What are they expecting me to answer?

“Oh um… I got a mailing after I took the PSAT’s from this place called Black University… No wait… Actually, I think it was called Brown University. It’s supposed to be a pretty good school or something.”

Of course, I am not stupid enough to say that. What do you guys think about this question?

I wrote the exact truth. I said I saw someone with a Brown sweatshirt and thought they were just trying to tell everyone their favorite color. Worked for me.

its only like 200 characters may as well say you found out about Brown from within the womb. why not what the hell!

I personally think it is a research question and not really used for admission purposes. It is the same reason why companies ask this on their own websites, they want to know what methods of attracting top students are effective. That said, don’t say you have never heard of it. But there it will not effect your chances if you write “from a friend” vs. “I read about it online.”

For you, I would just say I heard about it growing up.
