Brown Testing Requirements

I was under the impression that Brown would accept the old SAT along with the SAT II Writing for this year’s applicants. However, their application states that incoming frosh for 2006 must take the new SAT.

Does anyone know if they’ll take the old SAT?

bump......

i am pretty sure that they want the new one

i emailed Brown a few weeks ago asking how it will be viewing the old SAT....."While we will see scores from all tests taken, we are looking for students to take the new SAT I."....i'm assuming that Brown will consider the old scores, but requires the new one so it'll have something to compare next year's applicants with

Well, then your impression was wrong.

"For students who are currently juniors in secondary school (members of the Class of 2006) and who will apply for admission to Brown in 2005-06, the testing requirement is slightly different. Beginning in Spring 2005, the SAT I will be known as the SAT Reasoning Test and the SAT II as the SAT Subject Tests. Applicants will be required to submit results of the SAT Reasoning Test and any two SAT Subject Tests (except for the SAT II Writing Test). Alternatively, an applicant may submit results of the ACT which takes the place of both the SAT Reasoning Test and the SAT Subject Tests. If choosing the ACT, it must be taken with the Writing Test option. "

While they do word it a bit ambiguously, basically they want you to take the new SAT. Can't really blame them as it isn't fair to compare the SAT II Writing to the new SAT Writing.

I confirmed today that they require the new test.

What stinks is that I specifically asked this question when we toured last spring. The admissions person said that the old test would be accepted!

At least we found out one day before the deadline for registering for the October test.

I believe Brown is one of the few selective schools with this policy.

its the only ivy requiring the new. even stanford, in california, only HIGHLY SUGGESTS!!!!!!! the new SATs. bleh.
