Brown Transfer Fall 2020

Hi I’m a prospective Junior transfer. I haven’t seen a lot of activity regarding transfer students this fall. This is a pretty crazy time. Everything shutting down and transitioning to online. What are peoples thoughts? Will the admissions process potentially be affected and or stopped because of all of this?

Hey, fellow applicant here. Air Force veteran (2014-18), started going to a CC in los angeles post military. I am an applied math major and have finished calc 1-3, discrete math, differential equations, and linear algebra. Finished a lot of physics and CS classes as well. Excited to see what happens, my GPA isn’t too high due to taking a couple classes before the military (when i was not taking school serious), so my gpa is a 3.7 but we’ll see!

Hey Another applicant here. Also a math major. did almost the exact same classes as mattamania. Does anyone know when we are supposed to start hearing back from them?

I think around early May judging by some of the previous transfer threads. I wonder though if current events may delay when we might hear back. I’m looking at either a concentration in History or Creative writing.

Hi! I’m also applying to transfer to Brown for next fall. I’m currently attending CC. I’d like to study anthropology at Brown, but I’ve mostly taken STEM classes for prerequisites. I did email admissions because I wanted to take the March SAT, but it was cancelled… I didn’t know I didn’t need the SAT as a CC transfer. I posted my not great SAT score on the common app and I can’t remove it. An admission officer emailed me back saying they will take the SAT circumstance into consideration because of the chaos going on right now… I hope you are all healthy and safe.

An alumni from Brown contacted me yesterday and set up my interview tomorrow with them via faceTime, any pointers from anyone who has already done theirs?

Are you applying for transfer? I was pretty sure that Brown doesn’t offer interviews for transfer applicants?

Ya, i am applying for transfer. I think its because i am a veteran i guess

edit: ya i just read their website, in respect to veterans, “Guaranteed interview offers for all with a completed undergraduate application, regardless of type.”

Oh cool Good luck with your interview!

Hi! I’m also a prospective sophomore/junior transfer from a CC. Did anyone here submit a video portfolio and know if it is supposed to be shown in our portals? I uploaded mine but never saw it listed under the “application checklist” or “upload materials” sections…

I submitted a video too. But I also don’t see it on my portal checklist. It was uploaded so they must have it.

OMG I totaly forgot about the video portfolio. Do you guys think its important?

Hi! I was wondering what people thought my chances at getting into Brown are. Applied to concentrate in Computational Biology or biochem. Currently attend a Jesuit university and am majoring in Math and Public Health. Extracurriculars include one club exec board position and director of another program at school as well as a math and science tutor. College GPA is 3.97, with STEM heavy course-load, and letters of recommendation should be good. ACT 35, high school GPA is around 3.7. Good luck guys!

I suppose you have a good chance. I find the whole idea of chancing as a pointless exercise. In the end it seems even the most promising people aren’t accepted. It seems like a lot of people are applying in the STEM field so it may be most competitive in those departments? Good luck!

Anyone know when people heard back last year? Wonder if the timing will shift because of everything going on

I believe most students heard back on May 2nd last year. I think Brown is still releasing early May, but I can’t help but wonder about the timeline myself.

As far as I know the admissions process hasn’t been affected yet due to all of the closures going on. Can only assume they will keep a similar time table. They stuck to the RD release date last week but who knows

I realized I forgot to submit the 2 min video profile. Does anyone know if it is too late to do so? Is this a major issue for my application? Brown says it is optional, but will I be significantly disadvantaged because I did not submit it? Thanks!

@swimgirl838 You can’t really know how it will affect you. I personally opted not to submit one; my hope is that they accept me for my application as submitted. Hard to give an accurate representation of myself in two minutes with a poor camera.

Yeah it still should be on time, I called the admissions office last week because of an issue with my portal but I just asked whether the process is still on track and she said everything should be on time barring any unforeseen setbacks. I’m not sure why they were still open when the school shut down and everyone’s quarantined.
