Brown Transfer Housing (Sophomore, Spring '13)

Hi all,

I’m going to be a sophomore spring transfer (yay!) into Brown class of 2015 from Columbia; I’m leaving the country soon and need to fill out my housing forms ASAP, like by this week. Does anyone have any advice on which dorms to go for as a sophomore spring transfer? I looked at the list and there are like 50 dorms. I’d prefer a single in a fairly sociable environment, but singles might be hard to get as a sophomore so I’d take anything nice/close to campus.

Can anyone at Brown give me some advice? Thanks!

If you want singles, you can probably snag a Grad Center spot, but it’s not very sociable unless you already know people due to the suite setup of those buildings. New Dorm may also be available for singles, but it’s not super likely.

And concerning location, Brown is a pretty small campus. Unless you’re living in Machado or by Young Orchard/Perkins, any locations is manageable. If you want a super, smack in the middle of campus dorm, Hope, Caswell, Slater and Hegeman are several options (though they are mostly doubles or suite-style triples).

I would agree that the best options would be Hope, Caswell, Hegeman, Littlefield, and Slater - they’re right off the main green. Hope, Caswell, and Littlefield are sophomore-only housing, so that’d be a great way to meet people in your class. Most of them are doubles, but I’d bet they’d room you with another transfer, so that’s again a good way to meet people.
