Hey,
I just wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts/judgments/recommendations for me on getting into Brown next year as a transfer. I applied originally last year as a senior in high school and was denied; I was then "encouraged" to apply as a transfer.

Some facts about me:
4.06 cum. g.p.a. from private, liberal arts high school
29 ACT
8 consecutive semesters on A Honor Roll in high school
Tutor, athlete, crisis counselor and child advocate in high school
Tons of volunteer, service and extra-circ. activities in high school

4.0 g.p.a. currently at DePaul University in Chicago
writing fellow, psych club member, still crisis counselor, animal rights activist, and child advocate
amazing recommendations, both from high school and now college

Brown is my dream school. I love everything about that place. I visited, got my heart set and fell in love. I was crushed when I didn't get in. Now, I know that I will kick myself if I don't try again. I am just not sure I can take failing twice. My heart is there, it is just getting everything else there.
Any advice would be SO appreciated!

If I do so, that is re-take the ACT as a college student, will they even accept a score I earned as an undergraduate?
A 29 is the 95th percantile. Do you really think that would hold me back even with a 4.0 from a liberal arts university?

It's a college by college thing, but many colleges will accept a retake. When my DD was applying as a transfer we consulted a great private college counselor. She was shooting for top schools. We were told that to be competitive, you want to have a score at least the median for accepted freshmen. 29 is well below that at Brown, so yes, given the competition you will face from kids with high GPAs at top colleges, I would advise raising the score. Especially as you were rejected before and most definitely if you're applying for sophomore transfer. I would also apply to more schools, urban lore is that it's harder to transfer into a school that rejected you as a freshmen. If you love Brown, also look at Amherst where my DD ended up transferring to.

i'm not so sure i agree. i've never really heard of people retaking the act as transfers. you may want to call the admissions office and take their advice.
